About VLP Therapeutics

VLP Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing next-generation vaccines and immunotherapies for infectious diseases and cancer. Our Gaithersburg team is small, multidisciplinary, and hands-on—giving scientists the opportunity to work close to the science and see their contribution across the development program.

The Role

We are seeking a Scientist I to join our cancer immunotherapy program. This is a bench-focused role for a scientist who wants to design and execute experiments, generate high-quality data, troubleshoot methods, and work closely with a cross-functional R&D team in a fast-moving environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, execute, interpret, and document in vitro and in vivo experiments supporting cancer immunotherapy development.

  • Perform techniques that may include mammalian cell culture, protein purification, flow cytometry, and related immunology/cancer-biology methods.

  • Develop, optimize, and validate experimental methods and contribute to new technology evaluation.

  • Analyze data and communicate findings through presentations, technical summaries, reports, and scientific discussions.

  • Manage multiple experimental priorities while maintaining accurate scientific records and safe, compliant laboratory practices.

  • Collaborate with scientists and other functional partners and contribute to program planning and problem solving.

What We’re Looking For

  • Ph.D. in immunology, cancer biology, virology, molecular/cell biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field; approximately 0–3 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Strong hands-on laboratory and experimental design skills.

  • Background in immunology, immunotherapy, cancer biology, and/or virology.

  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong organization, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability and willingness to work primarily on-site in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Compensation & Benefits

VLP’s good-faith salary range for this position is $105,000–$115,000 annually. Actual base salary will depend on relevant experience, technical skills, education, and internal equity. Eligible employees have access to a benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability benefits, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid time off. Plan terms and eligibility are governed by the applicable plan documents. Other compensation: none currently proposed; VLP to confirm before posting.
