PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Protective Services Supervisor oversees and manages the activities of protective services personnel to ensure the safety and security of people, property, and organizational assets. This position supervises security staff, coordinates daily security operations, enforces established policies and procedures, and leads the response to emergencies and security incidents. The supervisor promotes a professional, service-oriented security environment while maintaining operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and effective communication with employees, visitors, leadership, and emergency response partners.

The protective services operation is 24 hours a day/365 days a year, operating during periods of closure, and holidays.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise, schedule, assign, and monitor the daily activities of protective services personnel to ensure appropriate security coverage and effective performance.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, and performance feedback to security staff; address performance or conduct concerns in accordance with organizational policy.

  • Coordinate security operations, including patrols, access control, visitor management, incident response, alarm response, and protection of facilities, people, property, and assets.

  • Enforce security policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations; recommend improvements when gaps or risks are identified.

  • Respond to emergencies, security incidents, disturbances, medical events, fire alarms, threats, and other urgent situations; establish control, coordinate resources, and escalate as appropriate.

  • Conduct or assist with investigations involving security incidents, theft, property loss, policy violations, suspicious activity, workplace concerns, and other assigned matters.

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate incident reports, investigation documentation, shift logs, and other required records; ensure reports are timely, complete, and professional.

  • Monitor security systems and equipment, including access control, video surveillance, alarms, radios, and other protective technologies; report deficiencies and coordinate corrective action.

  • Perform routine inspections and security assessments to identify hazards, vulnerabilities, unsafe conditions, or procedural deficiencies and initiate appropriate corrective measures.

  • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire/EMS, emergency management, facilities, human resources, and other internal or external partners as required.

  • Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, training, evacuation procedures, and continuity plans.

  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive security, personnel, investigative, and organizational information.

  • Promote courteous, professional, and respectful interactions with employees, contractors, visitors, and the public while maintaining appropriate security standards.

  • Operate on a non-routine schedule outside of core hours or across shifts to routinely engage staff on evenings and weekends, cover shifts; may be required to work beyond standard pay period hours (80).

  • Ensure assigned personnel maintain required certifications, training, uniforms, equipment, and readiness for duty.

  • Perform other related protective services and supervisory duties as assigned.

BASIC QUAILFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, Public Safety, Business Administration, or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

  • In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of related experience is required, including a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a leadership/manager capacity.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel, coordinate shift operations, assign work, and respond effectively to routine and emergency situations.

  • Knowledge of security operations, access control, incident response, emergency procedures, report writing, investigations, and workplace safety practices.

  • Ability to interpret and consistently apply policies, procedures, post orders, and applicable requirements.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and objective incident and investigation reports.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain calm under pressure, de-escalate conflict, and make timely decisions in high-stress situations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Ability to work non-routine hours to engage direct reports on evening and weekend shifts.

  • Basic to intermediate computer proficiency, including email, word processing, electronic reporting systems, and security-related technology.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with employees at all organizational levels and with external emergency response agencies.

  • Ability to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, or beyond standard pay period hours (80) or respond to emergencies outside normal working hours as operational needs require.

  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the candidate resides. Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by the Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any licenses, registrations, clearances (clearance, badging requirements), certifications, or training required by applicable law.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

The posted pay range for this job is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The salary range posted is a full-time equivalent salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time positions
