About BrainXell
BrainXell, Inc., headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, was founded in 2015 by Professor Su-Chun Zhang through the University of Wisconsin–Madison Discovery to Product (D2P) program. The company is an industry-leading producer of neurons and glia dedicated to delivering high-quality human cell models that advance drug discovery and translational neuroscience research.
Built on proprietary technology for the directed differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), BrainXell produces highly enriched subclasses of neurons and glial cells used by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies worldwide. With more than 30 employees the company offers both off-the-shelf products and customized service programs supporting research and therapeutic development.
Position Summary
BrainXell seeks a dynamic and entrepreneurial Chief Executive Officer to lead the company through its next phase of growth and commercialization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for overall operational leadership, strategic planning, and execution of both short- and long-term business objectives.
The successful candidate will guide the organization in leveraging its breakthrough stem cell technology, strengthening market position, and building long-term shareholder value while expanding BrainXell’s role as a leading provider of human iPSC-derived neural cell models.
Role Overview
The CEO will oversee all aspects of company operations while shaping and executing strategic initiatives aligned with corporate objectives. This includes developing organizational structure and leadership capability, ensuring effective operational performance across functions and geographies, and maintaining financial stewardship consistent with fiduciary responsibilities.
The CEO will play a central role in securing adequate financial resources to support company growth and will actively participate in investor engagement and capital formation activities.
A key responsibility of the role is identifying and executing strategic opportunities that accelerate revenue growth and market expansion. These may include partnerships, licensing agreements, alliances, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, or joint ventures that enhance BrainXell’s offerings and manage risk.
The CEO will also serve as a primary ambassador for the company, effectively communicating BrainXell’s mission, strategy, and scientific leadership to investors, partners, customers, and the broader scientific community. Continued advancement of the company’s innovation pipeline and technology leadership within a rapidly evolving life sciences market will remain a central priority.
Experience and Qualifications
Candidates should bring significant leadership experience within biotechnology or the broader life sciences sector, ideally within an emerging or growth-stage organization.
Demonstrated success guiding strategic direction, operational execution, and organizational development is essential. Experience supporting growth transactions such as licensing arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, or strategic partnerships is strongly preferred, along with an understanding of capital markets and investor engagement.
A bachelor’s degree is required, and advanced scientific or business training is desirable.
Leadership Profile
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong executive presence and the ability to inspire high-performing teams. They will demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, and collaborative leadership while balancing diplomacy with decisive action.
Strong communication skills across scientific, commercial, and investor audiences are critical, as is the ability to recognize emerging market trends and competitive dynamics. Intellectual curiosity, resilience, and determination will be essential in educating the market on the value of BrainXell’s transformative technology platform and guiding the company through its next stage of growth.
