Job Description

The Global Investigative Toxicology team is a cross-functional team of scientists that aim to detect and de-risk toxicity in Takeda’s portfolio to help make medicines safer and more effective. We are looking for an Associate Scientist to support these efforts across platforms and modalities. The Associate Scientist will contribute to ideas and deliver decision-making data to inform project teams on improved efficacy and/or de-risking of potential toxicities.

  • Work as part of a global team of safety assessment scientists to detect and de-risk toxicities associated Takeda assets.
  • Design and implement early safety assessment screening strategies to enable the progression of optimized therapeutic candidates.
  • Conduct cell-based in vitro assays to characterize toxicities for medicines in discovery & development.
  • Develop novel in vitro model systems to assess safety risks associated Takeda assets.

Accountabilities:

  • Independently plans assignments for a research work group or project, troubleshoots complex problems specialized procedures, and change experimental design if necessary.
  • Develops and validates new methods to support completion of complex assignments within a project.
  • Exercises independent judgement (selecting most appropriate methods, coordinating efforts, evaluating criteria for obtaining results).
  • Utilizes technical literature to implement novel procedures, changes and improvements within a project. Can duplicate and appropriately modify experimental procedures based on the literature.
  • Interprets and analyzes data, helping to incorporate results into overall scientific projects; Independently generates novel hypothesis.
  • Maintains a proactive and vocal approach to improving departmental efficiency.
  • Able to summarize and present literature data within department and occasionally to broader audiences.

Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral):

  • MS with 3+ years relevant experience or BS with 5+ years relevant experience in a scientific discipline (or equivalent).
  • Expert with standard aseptic cell culture technique, including experience culturing various cell types. Experience with culturing and differentiating primary cells is a plus.
  • Broad experience with cell-based functional assays. Experience with 3D MPS models, imaging, and flow cytometry is a plus.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in molecular & cellular biology, immunology, pharmacology and toxicology are recommended.
  • Basic experience with molecular biology techniques including RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, and western blot.
  • Experience working in a matrixed team environment at a pharmaceutical company and/or CRO.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and flexible with changing priorities.
  • Highly collaborative with demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$96,600.00 - $151,800.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
