Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$58,000 - $100,320

Delivery, Device, and Connected Solutions (DDCS) is an organization within the Product Research and Development (PRD) at Eli Lilly and Company.  DDCS is a diverse group of chemists, material scientists, and engineers with the critical responsibility of delivering our portfolio.  DDCS provides the scientific and engineering expertise to discover and develop delivery solutions across a range of modalities, from injection devices to nanomedicines.  Within DDCS, the Drug Delivery and New Product Innovation (DDNPI) team is leading efforts to advance research in injection physiology for various routes of drug delivery. Our goal is to develop state-of-the-art drug delivery systems and devices.

Responsibilities:

Top candidates for this position will be encouraged to:

  • Apply resourceful and innovative thinking to develop and validate computer simulation-based approaches to problems related to various drug delivery modalities. Demonstrate ability to utilize computational modeling to address impactful questions relating to various drug delivery modalities.

  • Leverage a strong theoretical and technical background in bio transport, continuum mechanics, FEA/CFD modeling, and simulation to develop and execute the modeling of drug delivery modalities such as injections, drug diffusion, and elution using commercial or open-source simulation platforms.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment but show initiative to undertake and drive independent research problems to completion.

  • Demonstrate strong communication (oral and written) skills.  Present work at group meetings or external conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication.

  • Show learning agility and willingness to rapidly learn the fundamental concepts, project requirements and regulatory and competitive landscape around making innovative drug delivery solutions.

  • Contribute to the overall goals of the department and the company by developing innovative drug delivery systems that improve patient outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering/ Chemical Engineering/ Materials Engineering/ Physics or related field

  • Expert in continuum mechanics, thermodynamics, modeling and simulation methods (FEA/CFD), theory and application

  • Fundamental knowledge of drug delivery

  • Proficiency in using computational modeling and simulation tools and software such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar

Additional Skills/Preferences:
  • Experience with Multiphysics modeling and simulation

  • Experienced in scripting (e.g., Python) and automating tasks

  • Fundamental understanding of medical devices.

  • Prior experience in modeling and simulation of drug delivery systems is a plus

  • Experimental experience with imaging and analytical equipment is a plus

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills that are based on creative thinking and attention to detail

  • Experience in managing or contributing to large-scale projects, including planning, execution, and reporting

  • Good organizational skills that will enable success in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize and handle uncertainty and risk

  • A strong desire to learn emerging technologies and new scientific concepts to support multi-disciplinary research

  • Good interpersonal skills and a persistent tendency for collaboration

  • Proficiency in scientific writing and publication in peer-reviewed journals, along with scientific presentation skills
