The facility in the Research Triangle Park of NC is Lilly’s most technically advanced parenteral, device assembly, and packaging manufacturing sites. The RTP facility includes multiple high-speed manufacturing lines, detailed robotic integration, advanced data collection and analytics for improved safety, increased productivity, and variability reduction. The facility is actively being expanded to add additional capacity, and this role would support both the existing assets and the start-up of additional capacity. This is an exciting opportunity to support a state-of-the-art facility as it continues to expand.
Responsibilities:
The Automation Engineer for our Packaging area is responsible for automated equipment performance, providing a first line support to production processes, as well as supporting area engineering initiatives, process improvements, and project implementation. This position will require the development of expertise in production processes, commissioning, qualification, and validation requirements and equipment specific code and/or control system technologies to support commercial production. The Automation Engineer will help ensure that equipment is maintained in a qualified state, can be operated safely, and maintenance is properly performed on the systems.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Partner with Corporate Automation, Global Packaging, Automation Integrators, and Global Facilities Delivery to design, install, and qualify the new RTP packaging lines.
Assist in the integration of these lines into the site data collection and SCADA layer.
System Administration ownership of these platforms including user access controls, automated alarm management, data capture and analysis, and system maintenance.
Manage and own the system security including data integrity.
Perform audits and periodic assessments of the systems to ensure compliance with Global Quality and Engineering Standards.
Lead the management and growth of the platforms as new process equipment and systems are added to the facility.
Obtain technical expertise of equipment and processes in the packaging area including clear understanding of equipment flow chart, process flow document, critical process parameters, and equipment controls.
Compare equipment performance data with other manufacturing sites within the network to determine areas of opportunity.
Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve more difficult equipment and operational problems.
Lead or participate in qualification activities (including commissioning activities of new equipment or areas).
Provide oversight and assist maintenance personnel and engineering techs that support the equipment.
Identify and drive improvement opportunities (procedural changes, upgrades, projects, etc.) associated with equipment within the area.
Provide rotational on-call support for 24-hour operations.
Partner with Corporate Automation for global initiatives including advanced data programs and cyber security.
Develop site procedures that will govern the packaging related control systems.
Be a champion for site safety activities, diversity/inclusion, ethics, and compliance
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
5+ Years of experience in Automation
Experience in instrumentation, PLC and/or HMI programming
Additional Preferences:
Studio 5000 and Factory talk view SE programming experience.
Previous experience with highly automated equipment
Core knowledge related to ISE S95 and S88 principles and
IT/Automation integration.
Experience working with validated systems.
Experience in OSI/PI Data Historians or related system.
Experience in Microsoft operating systems, virtual environments, and networking.
Experience in databases and visualization.
Experience with B&R platform is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to work safely in a participative environment.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; proficient at typing and writing technical documents.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and attention to detail and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and communications skills with a customer service attitude.
