The Position

The purpose of this job is to ensure that compliance considerations are fully integrated into strategic initiatives including those related to business development activities and enterprise initiatives. This role ensures alignment across E&C and NAO to address emerging risks and integrates compliance processes throughout the business lifecycle and supporting Compliance Program governance. Additionally, the position identifies and mitigates potential ethics and compliance risks, drives continuous improvement, and enhances the E&C program based on industry trends and best practices.

 

Relationships

Reports to the Director, E&C Strategy & Operations. Works closely with the E&C Leadership team, E&C Privacy team, NNI Legal team, Global Business Services (GBS) teams in Bangalore and Mexico, E&C colleagues across Novo Nordisk globally, and leaders across lines of business. Works closely with Business Development colleagues and/or commercial colleagues working on new enterprise to provide counsel on Compliance considerations. Coordinates with North American affiliates, including Novo Nordisk US-based research and production affiliates. External relationships include vendors and consultants as well as developing and maintaining relationships with the broader ethics and compliance network within the industry.

 

Essential Functions

  • Supports NN’s business development and enterprise activities across NNI and other north American companies, aligning efforts to execute E&C strategy and initiatives, and addressing emerging risks
  • Develops and maintains a detailed E&C playbook for business development and major enterprise initiatives, outlining compliance and privacy processes and considerations for transactions at various stages of the business development and strategic initiative lifecycle
  • Provides support on enterprise-wide initiatives that have E&C considerations and implications on a routine and ad hoc basis, including planning and execution of special projects
  • Supports Director, E&C Strategy & Operations with E&C Program governance and associated special projects
  • Identifies, analyzes, and supports the mitigation of potential ethics and compliance risks to the organization, including risks identified through transaction due diligence, maintaining regular communication and partnership with the Director of E&C \ Strategy & Operations
  • Coordinates with E&C Privacy team to incorporate Privacy risks and considerations into E&C playbook for business development and strategic enterprise priorities
  • Encourages continuous improvement and develops recommendations for enhancements to the E&C program based on regulations, professional testimony, industry trends, best practices, and business development opportunities
  • Maintains familiarity with laws surrounding NNI business objectives, the business development environment and leverages professional testimony, as needed
  • Supports the Director, E&C Strategy & Operations in facilitating and raising awareness of the Ethics & Compliance program while fostering accountability for ethics & compliance throughout the organization
  • Assists in developing plans to address new or updated risks and executes projects to respond to those risks, including understanding specific laws and business tactics
  • Champions a proactive approach to ethics and compliance, focusing on partnership, risk mitigation, prevention, and the advancement of business development areas, including processes surrounding emerging therapeutic areas
  • Supports E&C teams with special projects, as needed

    Physical Requirements

    10-20% overnight travel required.

     

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor 's degree from an accredited institution required, additional education/certification within the compliance and healthcare related fields is preferred
  • A minimum of eight (8) years combined pharmaceutical, legal, regulatory, and compliance experience required OR a minimum of six (6) years’ experience required if accompanied by an advanced degree or certificate (e.g. MBA, JD, PMP)
  • High standard of ethics and integrity
  • Proven experience managing complex compliance components of business development
  • Understand Business Development lifecycle and compliance requirements of post-acquisition timelines
  • Ability to project manage multiple projects to completion meeting internal and external deliverables
  • Display strong communication, people leadership, and organization skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective strategic relationships, teams, and networks with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical ethics and compliance landscape, particularly in the context of mergers & acquisitions, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, FDA rules and regulations regarding the promotion of pharmaceuticals, government corporate integrity agreements, and other prosecution agreements with pharmaceutical companies, as well as the PhRMA Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals, is strongly preferred
  • The ability to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision
