Job Details
The Head of Search supports Business Development and R&D initiatives across the Enterprise and is specifically accountable for identifying external partnership and/or licensing opportunities that build on CSL’s innovative pipeline and accelerate the organization’s strategic vision for growth.
The scope of search activities spans CSL’s three business units (CSL Behring, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor), five therapeutic areas (Immunoglobulins, Immunology, Haematology, Cardio-Renal and Vaccines) and multiple research platforms (including recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, cell & gene therapy and self-amplifying mRNA).
This senior leadership role requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in business development in the biopharmaceutical industry and a strong track record of relationship building and collaboration.
Responsibilities:
Opportunity identification and prioritisation
- Lead cross functional resources to identify and evaluate external partnership and/or licensing opportunities, including opportunities from academia, biotech and other biopharma companies
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of external innovation opportunities and contacts
- Utilize advanced search techniques and industry networks to discover new business prospects
- Define and execute processes to screen and prioritise opportunities
- Establish an enterprise-wide network and framework to ensure that other CSL personnel with exposure to external innovation adopt an informed and coordinated approach to Search activities to amplify our ability to identify opportunities
- Support competitive intelligence efforts in Research and the TA’s
- Create a network of search and evaluation excellence across the organization
Relationship management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with potential partners, industry leaders, and key stakeholders
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and meetings and coordinate with other CSL personnel at these events
- Foster a collaborative environment to facilitate successful partnerships
- Ensure high-level connection to the TA’s, Research and Corporate Strategy to ensure we are searching for opportunities that align with CSL’s interests and expertise
- Create or leverage external relationships and attendance by R&D leaders and self at various scientific meetings.
Evaluation and deal execution
- Lead a first pass evaluation of opportunities to ensure the organization uses its evaluation resources wisely.
- Work with other functions including R&D, Commercial, Business Development and Finance on the evaluation of potential opportunities and deal execution
Lead a Matrix organization of experts within R&D and beyond to create a vibrant search community of practice
Qualifications:
- M.S./PhD in relevant discipline;
- 12 years' pharmaceutical/biotech experience including business development or licensing
- Time spent in other R&D function
- Thorough knowledge of business development/licensing, pharmaceutical R&D and business strategy
