In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains.  Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk’s innovative oral products.  At API, you’ll join a global network of manufacturing professionals who are passionate about what they do.

The Position

This position is responsible for promoting the utilization of the Novo Nordisk Sourcing Methodology through Strategic Sourcing activities. This position will ensure the acquisition of high-quality goods/services at the best possible prices by negotiating & monitoring contracts & relationships with selected suppliers. Will be responsible for ensuring that Novo Nordisk will realize increased investment efficiency of monies spent & ensure fair value & service accountability. Identified opportunities for operational improvements & seeks agreement through consensus management.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates Market, Industry, & Customer Understanding
  • Utilizes knowledge of suppliers relative positioning & market trends & activities to build competitive advantage into purchasing practices
  • Contribute to sourcing strategies depicting the strategic direction short term & long term
  • Identifies, establishes, designs, & shares best practices
  • Collaborate & dialogue with users on system support & understanding
  • Influences Key Stakeholders
  • Communicates to Line of Business approved suppliers per category
  • Conducts spend analysis & relevant analytical tasks to support & justify sourcing direction & related activity
  • Develops & prepares summary reports & presentations as required
  • Seeks out, builds, & maintains trusting & collaborative relationships & alliances with others inside & outside of the organization in ways that accomplish key business objectives; & helps others do the same
  • Supports the novo DSI Supplier Diversity program & promotes the inclusion of diverse suppliers in all sourcing initiatives
  • Manages Supplier Oversight
  • Acts as a liaison between the line of business, appropriate internal stakeholders, & supplier to ensure business objectives are met
  • Manages & monitors organizational compliance with all established supplier agreements
  • Acts as an escalation point for supplier performance &/or compliance issues
  • Provides Strategic Sourcing Partnership
  • Assists the Line of Business &/or Enabling Functions with developing business requirements across a specific category/sub-category
  • Benchmarks operational costs to industry standards & provides information & insights to the lines of business
  • Develops supplier selection criteria & facilitate team members through a disciplined strategic sourcing process focused on maximizing total value
  • Establishes, directs, & leads cross-functional teams in various sourcing categories to identify, select, negotiate, establish, & source preferred supplier contracts, agreements, leases, supplies & services
  • Identifies, pursues, & maximizes opportunities for realizing cost savings without sacrificing the quality, service & reliability expected of our suppliers
  • Understands broad organizational perspectives & delivers messages & presentation to various stakeholders to gain consensus for strategic initiatives & ideas, in the face of complexity or disagreement
  • Always takes into consideration the Total Cost of Ownership when taking or influencing sourcing decisions
  • Drives make/buy business cases & possess the ability to communicate clear & unbiased recommendation scenarios to Senior Management
  • Utilizes & Enhances Procurement & Sourcing Systems & Tools
  • Follows up on system usage & proactively ensures compliance to system
  • Interfaces with the Novo Nordisk Strategic Sourcing to promote optimal use of procurement systems & ensure US involvement in global sourcing projects & related efforts
  • Partners with the Procurement team to establish company-wide procurement systems, tools, processes, policies, & procedures to support & lead to informed, fact-based sourcing decisions

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. (% can change on a case-by-case basis based on the role.)

     

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field. Minimum (10) years plus procurement experience considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree. Advanced Degree preferred required
  • Minimum of (7) years progressively responsible experience in Strategic Sourcing &/or purchasing, including at least (3) years’ experience sourcing &/or managing manufacturing spend categories &/or managing eSourcing events required
  • Raw Material Sourcing Management or Category Management experience preferred
  • Experience from the pharmaceutical industry or other regulated industries is an advantage a plus
  • Project Management experience is an advantage a plus
  • Previous consulting experience a plus a plus
  • Strong Knowledge of Strategic Sourcing Methodologies, Processes & Purchasing practices preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to act as project lead in the development & implementation of projects, processes, & programs. Multiple sourcing category/group experience preferred. Proficient with PCs, Microsoft Office Suite, Project Management Tools, Ariba or other eSourcing & contracts management systems preferred
  • Strong Negotiation skills & contracting skills preferred
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; good presentation skills preferred
  • Computer skills including experience with Excel & electronic Material management systems preferred
  • Familiarity with SAP preferred
  • Proven process improvement & problem-solving skills a plusWilling to learn LEAN & Flow concepts & skills a plus
  • Ability to develop strategic sourcing advice & sourcing plans based on supply & demand dynamics combined with business requirements a plus
  • Ability to develop & manage action plans to achieve targets required
