Job Description

The Platform Engineering Lead for Azure Cloud Infrastructure Platform is an experienced leader who is capable of leading an engineering practice and team(s) across the end-to-end enablement lifecycle of Foundational Technology Platforms - Infrastructure capabilities (i.e. development, testing, release, validation, and support).

  • Direct platform engineering team by establishing priorities aligned to committed objectives, then executing and monitoring progress towards platform engineering outcomes.
  • Provide specialized knowledge and expertise in Cloud Infrastructure platform engineering activities related to platform family.
  • Ensure focus on platform engineering quality by adopting consistent development, testing, debugging and documenting practices for effective communication of capabilities.
  • Accountable for overall platform capabilities engineering outcomes (i.e. implementation, development, testing, validation, maintenance), as well as management of development practices.
  • Continuously drive improvements across platform performance while remaining accountable against identified KPIs and OKRs (i.e. Quality, Speed, Adoption, Costs).
  • Execute activities based on Scaled Agile Framework PI Planning framework.
  • Responsible for platform budgeting activities.
  • Responsible for planning, managing, and measuring work.
  • Responsible for managing and motivating team members.
  • Responsible for management of vendor contracts, and capacity commitments.
  • Responsible for Level 3 platform support and maintenance activities.
  • Lead and oversee platform engineering execution lifecycle (planning / scheduling / building / testing / deploying / documenting), and monitor progress to ensure that engineering activities are completed on time, on budget, and with proper engineering practices and quality processes
  • Provision, manage and maintain the software infrastructure that supports platforms.

Competencies / Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, and/or Management Information Systems from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of more experience with Agile methods / methodologies, and leading SCRUM / Lean / Kanban teams.
  • 10+ years or more of relevant professional experience as a technology engineer, with 7+ years in a role managing platform teams.
  • 7+ years of experience deploying infrastructure using Azure public cloud solutions (additional AWS experience is desired).
  • Proven track record of getting things done in complex organizations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Healthcare / life science / pharmaceutical industry experience desired.
  • Referenceable leadership, management, or key influencer experiences required.
  • Ability to work in an agile and rapid changing environment with high quality deliverables.
  • Previous experience managing global engineering teams and budgets required.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated presentation, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to think outside the box for innovative engineering capabilities.
  • Knowledge of information management practices, regulatory requirements and global data privacy laws related to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven knowledge of IT Service Management, Service Operations, and Service Release (ITIL v4 and ITSM).
  • Working knowledge of DevOps CI/CD technologies and lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cloud IaaS and PaaS technology environments (AWS and Azure preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of micro-services concepts, API integration enablement, container technologies and services (Kubernetes based preferred).
  • Proven experience with platform engineering automation lifecycle, leveraging infrastructure as code, configuration management, orchestration, modern patterns, APIs, and site reliability engineering concepts.
  • Experience with scripted deployment process, tools, and lifecycle (i.e. Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, Python).

Competencies / Skills Preferred:

  • Ability to drive continuous improvement, and experience working with change management or internal communications team.
  • Experience working with virtual / Agile teams in different locations, aligning and adapting different work, culture, and communication styles.
  • Experience working in a lean and agile software delivery team model.
  • Experience managing insourced or outsourced delivery teams as a virtual lead.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

149,100.00 - 234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
