Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$64,500 - $167,200

Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.

This role will initially be in support of the design and delivery phase of the project as a part of the Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) team. As the site nears completion and start-up activities begin, this role will transition into a Lebanon Site role for long term operational support.

GPACE is part of Lilly’s Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC), and provides automation, measurement, and process control solutions.  GPACE is a technical resource for training, standards, capital project delivery, and Lilly’s standard automation platforms.  GPACE’s primary customers are global manufacturing and development sites, Corporate IT, and peer groups such as Global Facilities Delivery (GFD).

The Automation Engineer – DeltaV System Administrator will provide technical expertise on the DeltaV platform to support automation activities to deliver these new facilities.  This role will lead and facilitate the DCS system architecture design, the design/build and implementation of the DeltaV platform and develop the processes and procedures to manage the system.  This includes specifying the DeltaV hardware and I/O design, DeltaV Platform Virtualization, and ensuring the DeltaV Secure Architecture is followed to meet all cyber security requirements. The position requires high learning agility and a background in DCS system administration (preferably the Emerson DeltaV Platform), knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and experience in automated API manufacturing or related processes.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Work safely and strive to improve both people and equipment safety.
  • Automation Technical Leadership – Partner with colleagues to lead the discipline through solution assessment, design, system build and startup.  Manage relationship with strategic automation suppliers.
  • Automation Design – Provide support to Global Facilities Delivery during project conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering phases.  Ensure project design meets intended requirements. Use replication and best practices to optimize project cost.
  • Automation Delivery – Lead or support Automation design and delivery for Lilly’s new manufacturing sites.  This role will be responsible for the site DCS platforms from a design, build, and system administration perspective.
  • Project leadership – Lead, direct, and oversee contingent/contract workers for project deliverables.
  • Develop the framework for the site system administration procedures for the DCS platforms.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or a related science field
  • Experience as an Automation System Administrator
  • Experience managing Windows based servers and workstations including patching and upgrades
  • Minimum 5 years of applicable experience, including experience with the Emerson DeltaV platform

Additional Preferences:

  • Experience in pharma or GMP industry
  • Experience with System Virtualization
  • Experience with DeltaV Live
  • Experience with other DCS or PLC platforms in addition to DeltaV
  • Strong problem-solving skills on automation platforms
  • Strong communication skills
