What You'll Be Doing:

As the Lead Platform Architect, you will guide the design, development, and deployment of a large-scale IT ecosystem that will drive innovation in pharmaceutical R&D. You will lead sophisticated, multi-functional teams through a strategic technology implementation. This implementation will involve pivotal decisions around build vs. buy solutions, system integration, and the incorporation of innovative AI technologies. Collaborating with partners from R&D, AI, and Business Development ensuring the creation of a scalable, secure, and innovative technology platform that accelerates medicine discovery and development for Lilly and Lilly’s biotech partners.

How You'll Succeed:
  • Collaborate with diverse teams, including R&D, Data Science, IT Operations, and AI/ML teams, to ensure that technology decisions match business objectives and scientific goals.
  • Drive the integration of multiple technologies and platforms, including legacy systems, external solutions, and modern AI tools, ensuring seamless interoperability and data flow.
  • Incorporate sophisticated AI/ML capabilities into the IT ecosystem to enable data-driven insights, automation of complex processes, and acceleration of drug discovery timelines.
  • Establish and administer optimal procedures, standards, and guidelines for system architecture, security, and data privacy across the IT realm.
  • Ensure the architecture is scalable to support growth in data, user needs, and evolving technology trends, while maintaining performance and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, business units, and external partners to communicate architectural vision, gain agreement on priorities, and navigate technical challenges.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with sophisticated technical decisions, especially those concerning integration, scalability, security, and AI-powered advancements.

What You Should Bring:
  • Strong leadership skills capable of influencing and guiding multi-functional teams in a complicated, matrixed environment.
  • Experience in making intricate architectural decisions, especially regarding build vs. buy solutions, with a clear understanding of trade-offs, costs, and risks.
  • Deep expertise in cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP), AI/ML platforms, enterprise integration patterns (API, microservices), and data management (structured/unstructured data, data lakes).
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic vision with immediate business needs, navigating technical challenges with a pragmatic approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry is highly preferred.

Your Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise IT architecture, with a proven track record of leading large-scale, cross-functional IT implementations.

Additional Information:
  • Position requires work schedule flexibility, availability outside of regular business hours as needed to support business critical activities.
  • Travel Percentage: 20%
