The Role

Moderna is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Costing (SAP), who will be based out of our Norwood MA or Cambridge offices. In this role, you will take pride in staying on top of the latest technology trends while delivering innovative and transformative Digital solutions to support Costing & Financial teams. Candidates will excel in this role are able to understand the complex challenges of global product costing processes while marrying system capabilities to meet those needs.

This role will be the key Solution Architect for the CMC Finance organization. The individual will collaborate with Commercial, Finance and Supply Chain to implement processes, technical solutions, and continuous improvement using SAP S/4HANA and a variety of financial applications. In addition, this role will collaborate with digital and finance colleagues to establish foundational processes while building an innovative roadmap.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Act as the system expert for all finance related configuration to support business processes with SAP S/4 HANA, especially in costing area

  • Lead functional and technical, configuration and development for finance/Costing business processes within SAP S/4 HANA

  • Deliver SAP S/4 strategic solutions in Finance accounting operation, costing accounting, overhead cost management, Product Costing, Material Ledger, Profitability Analysis, R&D project accounting, capital project accounting, inventory revaluation, Actual costing, and Contract manufacturing organization integration

  • Roll-out SAP leading practices with SAP Fiori Apps & Transactions

  • Application support for the current and post go-live digital finance landscape as SME

  • Propose, lead, and deploy small and medium-size continuous improvement projects within financial/Costing systems

  • Write functional specifications with ability to propose BAPI, BADI’s, user exit and function modules to developers

  • Create and provide support for SAP and non-SAP financial/costing reporting

  • Provide leadership and architectural knowledge within large cross functional projects

  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and internal digital teams to design, develop and implement solutions with integration to non-FI SAP modules MM, PP-PI, MM, SD, QM

  • Help shape the strategy for an integrated landscape of financial systems

  • Independently deliver projects and initiatives in a timely and qualitative manor

  • Highlight potential risks and act proactively to resolve issues

  • Participate in the demand management process to assist the business in establishing business cases relating to new systems or potential system changes

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Finance, Management information system or related field required; a combination of experience and education may be considered

  • Minimum 8 years working with financial business processes and financial systems in an SAP environment

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with SAP S/4 HANA platform

  • Strong Inventory Valuation, Product Costing, Project system and Group Valuation background with SAP Material Ledger knowledge and support skill.

  • Working/project experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry particularly in a global environment with contract manufacturers

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated eminence in accounting & financial applications (for e.g. to have CMA, CPA and relevant SAP S/4 HANA certification)

  • Extensive costing experience and knowledge with intercompany business, and manufacture process.

  • Functional SAP expertise in product costing, inventory management, cost object controlling, cost center accounting, profit center accounting, internal orders, profitability analysis, material ledger, project accounting, sales order costing, group revaluation, General Ledger Accounting, period end close.

  • Expertise in SAP delivered best business practices and Fiori Apps.

  • Strong financial reporting skills especially in management/cost accounting field

  • Deep understanding of SAP FICO master data objects

  • Expertise in developing financial reporting using SAP tools such as ABAP queries and working with developers in proposing Back End data extraction from SAP and disparate systems

  • Experience integrating with SAP MM, PP-PI, SD, QM and WM

  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects or workstreams in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven work experience with SaaS systems, cloud applications, and digital integration

  • Data and business process modeling skills strongly preferred

  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing life sciences environment is a bonus

  • Digital Transformation/process change management experience preferred

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Effective communicator to management, peers, and project partners

  • Ability to effectively collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional Matrix environment
