Regional Director Security, North America WestWhat you will doLets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role the Regional Director Security, North America West reports to the Executive Director Global Security, North America in the Global Security (GS) organization. The Regional Director Security, North America West will be based at our Thousand Oaks Headquarters (HQ) site and is responsible to implement and drive the Global Security strategy in the North America West region. Central to this strategy is providing security leadership, coordination and oversight of Amgens Corporate HQ site as well as other company owned and operated facilities in their region. As a member of the Global Security Leadership Team (GSLT) you will help develop and implement the strategic vision in conjunction with other security professionals. Key areas of responsibility include asset protection (employees, contract workers, physical sites, & company reputation), site safety and security leadership, contract guard force management, access control, disaster preparedness, incident response and incident management planning and execution, workplace violence and crime prevention.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage and supervise, in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, the day-to- day security operations at the Thousand Oaks (TO) HQ complex to include supervision of proprietary and contract worker (CW) guard force personnel.
Liaison with the various business function leads, including site, Facilities, Engineering, HR, Legal, Occ Health, Operations, R&D leaders at the sites within area of responsibility to ensure the security team is properly integrated and supporting activities related to the safety and security of company assets.
In coordination with Amgens Crisis and Emergency Management program, provide onsite leadership, engagement, and ongoing solutions for ensuring proper response and management to site-based emergencies and crisis events for all North America West sites and locations.
For sites within the North America West region, direct and oversee the implementation of innovative security operational policies and procedures and develop and overall security strategy of continuous improvement, commensurate with the current and future threat environment.
Working closely with the Global Security Tech Team, oversee the operational functionality of the physical and electronic security systems to include access control system, intrusion detection systems, CCTV, video management system, visitor management program and electronic badging systems. Identify gaps and develop strategies to mitigate.
Conduct regular site risk & vulnerability assessments and develop actionable response plans to ensure proper security infrastructure and procedures are in place to maintain a safe working environment for employees, contract workers and visitors.
In coordination with the contract guard force vendor, develop an effective and innovative guard force training program to include site-specific hands-on drills and response to emergency events to ensure personnel are proficient in response protocols and duties.
Develop, update, and maintain site security plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Identify, assess, and implement commensurate mitigation strategies to counter threats to the safety and security of assets at Amgen sites; establish and maintain relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement & emergency services agencies to facilitate communication and emergency response.
In coordination with the GS Tech Team, project manage, from a security infrastructure and implementation perspective, planned new construction and renovated spaces to meet the security needs and guard force coverage; work with the various business units involved in construction phase to meet their requirements while maintaining appropriate levels of security.
Align with other directorates within Global Security, both regional and functional, coordinating efforts as required.
In coordination with the Manager, Executive Protection, ensure safety of CEO Staff, Board members and VIPs who visit the HQ campus; assist with the protection and security assessment for senior members and other VIPs during off site events, as warranted.
In coordination with the Meeting and Events team, manage the overall security plans and ensure proper levels of security resources are assigned to support meetings and special events, both on and offsite.
Ensure periodic site-specific crime prevention surveys are conducted to identify vulnerabilities and take appropriate measures to reduce risk.
Coordinate at risk employee terminations with Human Resources; investigate incidents of potential workplace violence in conjunction with the Threat Assessment Team.
Select, train and manage contract workers (CWs) and consultants as required, to include assisting with the of drafting RFPs, recommending consultants, negotiating contracts, providing leadership and guidance to consultants once retained, and critically reviewing work product and invoices submitted.
Conduct and manage internal and external investigations including theft, compliance matters and violations of site security policies, utilizing the GS case management system.
Conduct employee awareness training, as needed.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 4 years of Corporate Security experience
OrMasters degree and 8 years of Corporate Security experience
OrBachelors degree and 10 years of Corporate Security experience
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree & a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive security experience to include leading a physical security program at a comparable headquarters campus / major facility for a private sector multi-national corporation. Biopharma industry experience considered be a plus.
Prior supervisory law enforcement experience at the Federal, State or Local level or military police background preferred, but not required.
At least 5 years of experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.
You must also have a strong level of proficiency with security systems and the ability to understand their capabilities, improve their effectiveness, and realize their limitations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Requires approximately 20% travel, including overnight and weekend commitments.
Professional Security Certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), preferred but not required.
A hands-on leader who can also operate at a strategic level, with demonstrated success leading a physical security program in a highly dynamic, collaborative environment.
Possess leadership and management skills essential in guiding teams with the ability to engage, influence and inspire staff.
Must have a strong knowledge of corporate security protocols and standards.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and act quickly in an emergency.
Versatile leader, able to adjust to the dynamic nature of a changing HQ complex, able to both manage and engage on detailed specifics, while also communicating and driving change for leadership and executive level stakeholders.
Possess strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to gather and evaluate information and prepare written reports that clearly and concisely identify the issues presented, proposed resolutions and conclusions.
Must be able to work on and prioritize multiple tasks; that the ability to work well under pressure and exercise sound judgment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including dynamic interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus, lead by example, strong presentation skills; ability to write professional documents in a clear, concise manner.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Maintain the highest degree of integrity, compliance and confidentially.
Demonstrated experience in understanding and working with key partners as part of an Incident / Crisis Management Team is required.
An extensive history of fostering internal and external relationships to help shape the security program, having the ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization.
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business requirements into security realities.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
