The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Loading and moving heavy equipment, assistance with set up of equipment and handling of other industrial and laboratory items
- Operating a forklift, trucks 10,000 GVWR, vertical lifts, jib rigs, snow blower, garden tractor, and utility tractor, small hand tools
- Transporting, delivery and set up of equipment & supplies to offsite and onsite facilities
- Assembling shelving and office furniture
- Maneuvering and transporting materials and equipment weighing in excess of 500lbs on a frequent basis with the assistance of forklift and various other similar equipment
- Removing debris and snow
- Performing tasks indoors and out-of-doors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, or which could have work hazards
- This position is subject to 24-hour call in (rotating schedule) for emergency repairs
- Logging delivery activity and status both digitally and handwritten
- Ability to communicate and work as a team effectively
- Potential for exposure to biological, chemical, animal allergens and other laboratory-related hazards.
- Performs other operations and maintenance duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No work experience required with a high school degree
- MD class C driver’s license required
- Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the incumbent/candidate resides for each class of vehicle to be operated on company business
- Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months per policy
- Ability to perform physical duties including manually lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Duties include walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and working in confined areas, potential exposure to particulates, vapors or noisy environment
- Basic computer skills
- This position is considered safety-sensitive and will be subject to random drug testing per the Leidos Biomedical Research Drug Free Workplace Program
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- One (1) year of progressively responsible experience
- Experience in safety practices in the trade, industrial construction/support equipment
- One year of forklift experience
- Experience working for sustained periods of time performing manual labor
- Awareness of general provisions of hazardous materials in transportation
