Lilly’s Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization has a track record for delivering novel biotherapeutic medicines to advance into clinical research in key areas of unmet medical need including diabetes, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and others.

This position is within the Antibody Discovery group at the Lilly Biotechnology Center in San Diego. We are responsible for immunization strategies and B-cell isolation methods to deliver antibody repertoires for downstream profiling.  The role requires a deep understanding of antibody discovery platforms and the ability to drive biologics programs from concept to candidate selection.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing immunization strategies to deliver antibody libraries for therapeutic and tool antibody identification; experience in antigen design and validation is highly beneficial.
  • Advancing discovery workflows through optimization of procedures and integrating novel technologies.
  • Act as a key liaison between antibody discovery team and automation and data analytics teams to ensure alignment of discovery efforts for therapeutic area groups.
  • Supervise work of 2-3 associates and guide continuous learning and career development.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, biological sciences or related field and 3+ years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Hands-on experience with B-cell isolation methods from in vivo immunizations, antigen characterization, antibody screening formats, and immune repertoire mining.
  • Flow cytometry data interpretation and cocktail troubleshooting for optimal phenotype detection.

Additional Skills and Preferences

  • Molecular biology expertise to support cell line generation and/or familiarity with alternative antigen formats
  • Proven track record of implementing novel techniques into antibody discovery strategies.
  • Familiarity with NGS immune repertoire and clonal triaging approaches.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, particularly therapeutic areas.
  • Exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
