Job Description
Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. The Executive Regional Director West, HIV Prevention - is responsible for leading sales for a defined customer base, supporting and growing a sales team focused on consistently achieving or exceeding regional sales targets within a specific geographic area, including but not limited to, in-person representation and face-to-face meetings with healthcare practitioners within the assigned region. They possess leadership, communications, coaching, and analytical skills. In addition, they should be able to synthesize various market data sources to guide their team in conjunction with national direction.
This unique opportunity supports the West Region covering Washington, California, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho.
- The Executive Regional Director leads and directs Regional Sales Directors, ensuring they have strong expertise in product knowledge, sales skills, market conditions, strategy and tactics of institutional account management and HCP sales, corporate policies and procedures, and business planning models.
- Establishes consistency in inclusive leadership and management principles across the sales organization.
- Develop strategies and tools to support managers in navigating leadership challenges.
- Collaborates with the Head of Sales, Vice President of Sales and Marketing and the Analytics team to develop, implement, and manage individual sales IC goals for each region and territory, ensuring fairness and equity in goal setting across all teams.
- Proven in all aspects of selling, i.e., technical knowledge, sales techniques, interpreting/analyzing data, and an in-depth understanding of the medical field and biopharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrated ability to support regional directors in coaching/developing/supporting account-focused cross-functional leadership with their sales teams.
- Proven ability to attract, retain, and lead a diverse team. Demonstrates a commitment to Gilead's ongoing Inclusion & Diversity efforts.
- Analyzes, understands, and presents scientific/technical details by thoroughly understanding pharmaceutical marketing and sales regulations, guidelines, and policies.
- Exhibits a consistent record of developing highly successful regional/district sales leaders, inspiring and driving goals.
- Demonstrated a penchant for sales effectiveness through robust analysis and strong interpersonal skills.
- The ability to multi-task and work within cross-functional teams. Exemplifies operational excellence for administrative tasks.
- Led product and disease state discussions during internal and external-facing meetings.
- Proactively shares knowledge of a new product or disease state developments, including new considerations in the pros and cons (overall goals of the plan, cost vs. efficacy, dosing, duration, etc.) of a product protocol.
- Plays a critical strategic role, partnering with Marketing in cross-functional meetings with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Managed Markets, Commercial Operations, Human Resources, Legal, Business Conduct, Medical Information, and outside vendors to ensure product commercialization and organizational growth (at all stages).
- Plans, forecasts, and administers operating budgets while actively monitoring expenses.
- Responsible for regional profit and loss.
- Effectively implements Brand Plan of Action strategies and tactics to achieve corporate sales objectives.
- Monitors and assesses competitive sales activity in the biopharmaceutical market and makes recommendations to senior leadership.
- Engages the physician to consider the best treatment options for patients (e.g., considering alternative treatment or seek a second opinion).
- Responsible for representing Gilead's products and services to a defined customer base, generating and growing sales and consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets within a specific geographic area, including, but not limited to, in-person representation and face-to-face meetings with healthcare practitioners within the assigned area.
- Ability to engage in such travel as may be reasonably required, including regular travel within the assigned area (and, to the extent applicable, satisfaction of any requirements associated with such travel).
- Ensures all department personnel are fully informed of and in compliance with Gilead commercial compliance policy, all applicable federal and state laws and guidance relating to product promotion and information dissemination, including, but not limited to, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the Food and Drug Administration's implementing regulations, the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, PhRMA, Corporate Code of Business Conduct and the Office of the Inspector General's Compliance Program Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years' Experience OR
- Masters' Degree and Twelve Years' Experience OR
- Ph.D. and Twelve Years' Experience
- Ability to engage in such travel as may be reasonably required, including regular travel within the assigned area (and, to the extent applicable, satisfaction of any requirements associated with such travel).
- Satisfaction of any onsite visitation requirements of healthcare practitioners within assigned area, if applicable (which may include but not be limited to, by way of example, vaccinations, drug and background screenings, and any other requirements that may be adopted by certain healthcare practitioners)

- Valid driver's license is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA or BS degree, preferably in life sciences, business administration, or equivalent.
- Fourteen years of proven commercial leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, including five years in pharmaceutical sales executive management. Extensive experience in launching, building, and leading sales teams to achieve success.
- Proven ability to lead teams in fostering deep connections with communities by understanding their needs and building customer relationships grounded in empathy, trust, and inclusion.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to guide sales leaders in driving engagement and fostering cross-functional local partnerships with managed markets team, medical and other functions.
- Multi-Product Experience: Experience leading a team with a portfolio of products

- The salary range for this position is: $249,645.00 - $323,070.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
