Ready to shape the future of science and global health? ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Virology Scientist to work onsite 5 days/wk in Manassas, VA.
As a Virology SME, you will support the ATCC Manufacturing, Science & Technology Virology department by optimizing virus stock expansion and viability results, as well as troubleshooting and resolving production challenges. Experience working with wide range of viruses is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Research and Development: Introduce and execute process improvement projects to streamline the current production and QC procedures that will affect multiple virology departments. Develop new assays to improve the quality of current virology offerings.
- Technical Problem Solving and Documentation: Conduct lab research, troubleshoot issues, analyze data, and document actions. Create protocols, reports, and SOPs. Streamline production and QC procedures, identify cost-saving equipment, develop new assays, and manage complex virology productions.
- Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Share research findings, collaborate with the Product Development team to assist with Technical Transfers of new assays to the BioProduction and QC departments. Assist with training staff on advanced virology procedures.
Qualifications
- PhD in Scientific Discipline or Engineering Equivalent and 2-5 years' experience or equivalent experience (virology research and development, including experience with virus stock expansion and viability assessments).
- Experience working with wide range of viruses is preferred.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and troubleshooting. Experience with assay development, process improvement, and technical transfers.
- Strong understanding of scientific principles, laboratory practices, and quality standards. Familiarity with current scientific and technological developments in virology.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical problems, streamline procedures, and develop innovative solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting research, creating SOPs, and disseminating findings.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, support cross-functional projects, and train staff on advanced procedures.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and ensure the quality and integrity of research activities.
Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
