Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As the Senior Director, Field Reimbursement Management (FRM) for HIV Prevention, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring patient access to our groundbreaking therapies by leading a nationwide team of Regional Field Reimbursement Directors (TBD) and Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs). This position will drive the Field Reimbursement team's strategic direction, operations, and performance to optimize patient access and navigate complex insurance coverage and reimbursement challenges. This is a field-based position with significant leadership responsibilities nationwide.

The position is a field-based role that leads a team of Regional Field Reimbursement Directors & FRMs may be located in Boston, New York, Dallas, Seattle, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco and Washington D

Specific job responsibilities:
  • Experienced Collaborative Leadership: Provide strategic vision and strong leadership to the Field Reimbursement team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration that is dedicated to ensuring patient access. Lead through others and effectively navigate and resolve conflict when needed. Champion Gilead's mission in all interactions and decisions.
  • Cross-functional influence: Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, prioritizing team success and patient access over individual recognition and fostering cross-functional collaboration to ensure access and reimbursement strategies align with broader business objectives.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrates open-mindedness and flexibility, being aware of cultural similarities and differences without assigning value, guiding the team to adapt to different environments and practices without being overly prescriptive.
  • Talent Development: Lead the recruitment, training, mentorship, and professional development of FRMs, enhancing their capabilities in navigating complex reimbursement challenges and advocating for patients effectively.
  • High-Performance Culture: Cultivate a high-performance team environment that emphasizes patient-centricity, compliance, operational efficiency, empowerment with accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Access & Reimbursement Expertise: Serve as a recognized subject matter expert on access and reimbursement policies and practices, providing strategic guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders to drive successful reimbursement outcomes.
  • Strategic Initiative Development: Develop and execute comprehensive strategic initiatives to optimize patient access to prescribed medications through innovative and effective reimbursement strategies.
  • Market Intelligence: Maintain in-depth knowledge of evolving healthcare policies, insurance regulations, and market trends, proactively identifying challenges and opportunities in the reimbursement landscape to inform strategic decisions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers and office staff handling patient access and reimbursement issues, ensuring effective collaboration and advocacy for patient access.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of access & reimbursement strategies and the performance of the Field Reimbursement team.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze complex data and metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement in patient access and reimbursement processes. Provide regular, insightful updates to senior management on the performance and impact of access & reimbursement initiatives.


Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years' Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Twelve Years' Experience

OR

PhD and Ten Years' Experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • BA/BS/RN with 14 years of experience working for a major pharmaceutical organization on the field reimbursement team
  • MA/MS/PharmD with 12 years of experience working for a major pharmaceutical organization on the field reimbursement team.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams in dynamic environments; strong ability to inspire, motivate, and develop team members.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of healthcare policies, insurance regulations, and reimbursement practices, particularly within the specialty pharmacy and biotechnology sectors.
  • Experience engaging with and managing large, complex provider accounts.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy benefits, specialty payer landscape, and reimbursement pathways (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid).
  • An understanding of local and state policy changes' effect on reimbursement policies.
  • Preferably have experience with specialty pharmacies and utilizing a HUB service
  • Preferably have experience in multiple buying models, including buy & build
  • A willingness to travel 75% of the time across designated regions. This is a field-based role where in-person meetings with key stakeholders are crucial to success

The salary range for this position is: $232,220.00 - $300,520.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
