This position is based out of the Plainsboro, NJ location. This position follows all NNI guidance for remote/in office dedicated time. EST time-zone hours.

 

The Position

The Director, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI&B) plays a pivotal role in activating the Novo Nordisk Way to attract and retain diverse talent and create an inclusive culture that celebrates the diversity of our people and provides them with the tools they need to unlock their full potential and bring their whole selves to work each day. This position requires the development, management and implementation of complex business-specific initiatives and coaching/guidance to leaders within the organization in support of DEI&B across Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI) and all other Novo Nordisk sites in North America.  With subject matter expertise in DEI&B, this position will be responsible for developing enterprise-wide and line of business (LoB) strategies and associated work plans aligned with our global Novo Nordisk enterprise priorities. This position will collaborate with and influence executives, leaders, teams, and employees across the entire organization to enable an environment that drives performance in the marketplace through a focus on DEI&B and highlights Novo Nordisk as a market leader in the DEI&B space.
 

 

Relationships

The Director, DEI&B reports to the VP, People, Culture & DEI&B, and works alongside and mentors the Manager, DEI&B, as well as DEI&B Business Partners for other affiliates outside of Novo Nordisk Inc. who have a dotted-line reporting relationship into the function to ensure a consistent DEI&B strategy and approach across North America.  This position serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for DEI&B and influences, coaches, and consults with Executive Team (ET) members, senior leaders and teams, including strategic interactions and collaboration with HR Business Partners (HRBPs) across North America, Employee Experience, the lead of DEI&B at Novo Nordisk  Canada, the DEI&B leads at other Novo Nordisk affiliates across North America, senior functional/ LoB leadership teams, Communications, Legal, Talent Acquisition, Finance, Procurement, and other managers and employees at all levels.  The position will serve as a thought leader and will share their expertise and insights with the previously mentioned groups in order to influence strategic planning and decision making.  This position also partners with the Manager, DEI&B to manage  external strategic partnerships and relationships, including Novo Nordisk global functions and affiliates, consultants, vendors, and marketplace professional associations/organizations, as well as all Novo Nordisk Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). 
 

 

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the SME for DEI&B and will leverage best practices in DEI&B to develop and execute strategies that support the delivery of business outcomes
  • Provide and develop thought leadership, programs, and solutions that foster a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Provide strategic DEI&B advice to shape and steer DEI&B programs and initiatives throughout North America
  • Serve as a thought partner with HRBPs and Employee Experience to lead and support the design and facilitation of related learning, leadership and talent programs, DEI&B capability-building, retention, and belonging initiatives
  • Drive the evolution and implementation of the People, Culture & DEI&B strategy in the LoBs by partnering with each ET/LT, HRBP, and the Culture, Wellness & Engagement team to design and implement a DEI&B, Culture & Wellness plan for each ET area
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and Talent Management teams to enable and equip recruiters and hiring managers with the tools, training, and resources to attract and retain underrepresented talent
  • Partner with Communications to maintain internal dialogue and enterprise-wide communications including writing content and thought pieces such as DEI&B newsletters, articles, ads, campaigns, etc., as well as partnering with Communications to ensure promotion/visibility of internal and external recognition
  • Partner with Legal and overseeing the process and consultation associated with sharing of employee data with ET members and HRBPs for their respective business units with the intent of developing focus areas and approaches around opportunities for improvement to drive better outcomes
  • Plan and execute signature DEI&B events (e.g., ERG Development Day, DEI&B Summit) and publications (e.g., annual DEI&B Report)
  • Provide strategic leadership to large cross-functional projects, proactively seeks buy-in from key stakeholders and engages in continuous communication; ensures adequate resourcing, development of change management plans, as well as methods to measure and evaluate progress/success
  • Facilitate open and honest discussions about DEI&B at all levels of the organization to advance the organization's inclusive culture
  • Ensure partnership and alignment with global DEI&B colleagues in order to understand and execute against global initiatives 
  • Translate global and North America DEI&B strategies into localized plans and identifies opportunities to use organizational drivers to drive change and shape behaviors
  • Ensure successful execution on annual plans and programs by gathering and presenting employee feedback, quantitative and qualitative metrics and analytics, and best practices to stakeholders while measuring the KPIs and ROI for each program and reporting progress to leadership 
  • Oversee the building and maintenance of trusting, collaborative relationships and alliances with relevant, strategic, external organizations, thought leaders, partners, vendors, and internal stakeholders to inform and accomplish key business objectives
  • Support the Manager DEI&B and ERG leadership teams in setting annual objectives, including metrics and expected outcomes, and actively consult around communicating overall business impact using metrics and LoB feedback
  • Remain up to date on industry trends and best practices while adhering to all compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Engage externally and influence the industry in the DEI&B space, showcasing that Novo Nordisk is committed to driving broader change and being DEI&B leaders in the marketplace

 

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.  Relevant experience and/or DEI&B and other relevant certifications in specialized HR functions may be substituted for degree when appropriate
  • A minimum of 12 (twelve) years of experience in Human Resources or a related field is required.  A minimum of five (5) years in a position that is directly responsible for DEI&B is also required.  
  • Professional DEI&B certification is a plus.
  • At least two years of project management experience preferred
  • Experience working for a global company (headquarter/affiliate model) is a plus
  • Must have experience coaching executive and senior leadership on DEI&B matters      
  • Proven experience creating and implementing departmental and/or organizational DEI&B  strategies
  • Must have the ability to collect, synthesize, analyze and present data and metrics in support of project objectives and deliverables for audiences at all levels of the organization 
  • Must have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and develop and sustain cross-functional relationships and interact with all levels of the business   
  • Must be able to translate specific problem statements and areas of improvement into specific projects and recommendations
  • Must have the ability to challenge the status quo, influence through thought leadership and insights and analytics, and be a change leader
  • Must have the ability to effectively plan, prioritize, execute, and follow-up in a timely manner and anticipate problems and roadblocks
  • Must have sound presentation skills to present to business leaders and/or large groups of individuals
  • Empathetic listener with the ability gain trust and understand varying points of view 
  • Must have ability to execute multiple high-visibility, complex projects
  • Must be detail-orientated with a high attention to quality results
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office, including intermediate knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must have strong organization/time management skills
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
