The Sr. Director, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and implementation of comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery programs. This role ensures the organization’s ability to maintain essential operations during disruptive events and to recover critical systems and data in a timely manner. Additionally, the Executive Director will oversee records retention management and data classification initiatives to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements for information governance.


Job Responsibilities:

1. **Business Continuity Planning (BCP):**

   - Develop, maintain, and execute comprehensive business continuity plans for all departments.

   - Identify critical business functions and processes, perform risk assessments, and establish recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).

   - Collaborate with department leaders to establish business continuity strategies for essential operations during disruptions.

   - Conduct regular business impact analysis (BIA) to assess risks and vulnerabilities.

 

2. **Disaster Recovery (DR):**

   - Design and implement disaster recovery strategies for IT systems and infrastructure, including backup, failover, and restoration plans.

   - Ensure proper testing of disaster recovery plans, conducting regular drills and audits.

   - Partner with IT teams to ensure data backups are performed, secured, and accessible in the event of a disaster.

   - Establish and maintain relationships with third-party vendors for emergency response and recovery services.

 

3. **Crisis Management and Incident Response:**

   - Lead the organization's crisis management and incident response efforts.

   - Develop and maintain a crisis communication plan, ensuring key stakeholders are informed during disruptions.

   - Coordinate cross-functional response teams during emergencies, guiding swift action to mitigate risk and restore operations. 

   - Must be available for on-call duties during emergencies.

 

4. **Records Retention Management:**

   - Develop and enforce a records retention policy that complies with legal, compliance, regulatory, and organizational requirements.

   - Oversee the lifecycle management of physical and digital records, including retention schedules, storage, archiving, and secure destruction.

   - Collaborate with department heads to ensure proper records management practices are followed across the organization.

   - Ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws regarding the retention and disposal of sensitive records.

 

5. **Data Classification and Information Governance:**

   - Establish and maintain a comprehensive data classification framework to identify and categorize data based on sensitivity, value, and risk.

   - Collaborate with information security and compliance teams to ensure data handling practices align with classification guidelines.

   - Develop and implement policies for the protection and secure management of sensitive and confidential information.

   - Provide training and awareness programs to employees on proper data classification and records management practices.

 

6. **Regulatory Compliance and Audits:**

   - Ensure that business continuity, disaster recovery, records retention, and data classification policies comply with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX).

   - Serve as the point of contact for internal and external audits related to BCDR.

   - Monitor and report on the organization’s compliance status, recommending corrective actions when necessary.

 

7. **Leadership and Team Management:**

   - Lead and mentor a team of business continuity, disaster recovery, and information governance professionals.

   - Foster a culture of risk management and preparedness across the organization through training, awareness programs, and cross-departmental collaboration.

   - This role will not have direct reports at this current time, correct?


Job Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Risk Management, or equivalent professional certifications (e.g., CBCP, MBCI, CISM) is preferred.

- 10+ years of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, risk management, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

- Strong knowledge of business continuity standards (e.g., ISO 22301) and disaster recovery best practices.

- Experience with records retention management and data classification frameworks.

- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to information governance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

- Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

- Complete all company and job-related training as assigned within the required timelines.
