Job DescriptionWe are seeking a scientific leader who is passionate about innovation in Gastrointestinal and Inflammation (GI2) disease to join Takeda’s Search and Evaluation (S&E) group, covering discovery through commercial stage assets and technology. Takeda has grown to be a leader in Gastrointestinal and Inflammation disease areas through bold decisions in growing our internal pipeline as well as through business development. We aim to expand our leadership by continuing to leverage external innovation and building strong scientific networks.
The Gastrointestinal & Inflammation S&E role resides within Takeda’s R&D Center for External Innovation organization (CEI) and reports to the Head of S&E. As a member of the S&E team, this person will work closely with the S&E Lead, Gastrointestinal and Inflammation to contribute to landscaping and strategy updates and scouting of opportunities ranging from academic research and discovery platforms to development stage and commercial products. The Gastrointestinal & Inflammation S&E will also support S&E Lead and Deal leads to conduct technical due diligence and summarize risks and mitigations for opportunities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the search, triage and evaluation of in-licensing opportunities emanating from academia, VC, biotech and peer-pharma, including early research projects, new modality platforms, pre-clinical and clinical stage assets and Life Cycle Management (LCM) opportunities with S&E Lead.
- Support S&E Lead to establish and lead Due Diligence teams and process to drive the detailed scientific evaluation of potential assets to support recommendations at governance
- Support the preparation of materials for senior management briefings of recommended opportunities
- Ensure effective communication during BD process with key internal partners and cross-functional teams
- Builds and maintains a broad network of internal and external partners
- Leverage relevant database and analytics tools to curate technology and disease (target) biology maps in support of opportunity identification and prioritization, and anticipation of new entry points
- Support the evaluation of new database/analytics to improve upon curation of insights
- Conduct primary and secondary research in support of due diligence and/or strategic projects which may include, but is not limited to: KOL interfacing, medical/scientific congress attendance, review of scientific literature, and analyzing/tracking key competitors
- Develop, implement, and oversee project management of S&E consulting engagements
Basic Requirements:
- PhD or MD and minimum of 5 years in industry and 10 years in Gastrointestinal, Inflammation or Immunology
Qualifications:
- Experience in global pharmaceutical R&D
- Strong scientific understanding of drug discovery and development
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior executive teams
- Ability to think critically, creatively and to anticipate and solve problems
- Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly matrixed work environment
- Comfortable with ambiguity

The Gastrointestinal & Inflammation S&E will have excellent communication, organizational and collaboration skills. This role serves as an ambassador to clearly communicate Takeda’s Gastrointestinal & Inflammation BD strategy, evaluation process and governance to internal and external stakeholders. This person helps to identify opportunities consistent with Takeda’s business goals, compare/contrast numerous opportunities and champion the best opportunities to the organization. In addition, this person will be a critical thought partner with S&E Lead, Gastrointestinal & Inflammation to the GI2 BD team, Takeda Ventures, Global BD, GI2 Drug Discovery Unit and Therapeutic Area Unit, respectively.

Boston, MAU.S. Base Salary Range:
$169,400.00 - $266,200.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
