Job Scope:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist I in Molecular Biology to join our team. This role focuses on processing customer samples, conducting experiments, troubleshooting, and beta-testing new automation instruments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in molecular biology techniques, particularly cloning, bacterial cultures, plasmid preparation, agarose-gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, endotoxin detection techniques, protein purification, protein staining and transfer methods, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, etc. Additionally, the role includes conducting virtual demonstrations of our instruments, maintaining inventory and handling customer sample shipment. The position supports the Field Application Scientist (FAS) team to ensure high-quality results and customer satisfaction.
Please note that this role is based onsite in Piscataway, NJ.
Responsibilities:
1. Sample Processing:
- Receive, manage, and document customer samples ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as plasmid preparation and analysis (endotoxin levels measurement, Restriction enzyme digestion, genomic DNA, supercoil analysis, SDS PAGE, Western blot, etc.) on internal and customer’s samples.
- Maintain detailed records of sample processing activities and data entry.
2. Experimental Support:
- Conduct experiments to validate and optimize the use of our products on internal and customer samples.
- Develop and execute protocols for various molecular biology applications to support FAS team projects.
- Analyze experimental data and prepare detailed reports to share with the FAS team and customers.
3. Design and conduct experiments to validate and optimize the use of our products and instruments
- Develop and execute protocols for various molecular biology applications.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during experiments and provide effective solutions.
- Analyze experimental data and prepare comprehensive reports for the FAS team and customers.
4. Beta-Testing Automation Instruments:
- Participate in beta-testing of new automation instruments for protein and plasmid purification.
- Provide feedback on instrument performance, usability, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the R&D team to refine and optimize automation protocols.
5. Virtual Demonstrations:
- Conduct virtual demos of our instruments to potential customers and partners.
- Develop and deliver engaging presentations that effectively showcase the capabilities and benefits of our products.
- Tailor demonstrations to address specific customer needs and queries.
6. Collaboration with Field Application Scientists:
- Work closely with the FAS team to understand customer needs and project objectives.
- Provide technical insights and recommendations based on experimental results to support FAS team in troubleshooting and optimizing customer applications.
- Assist in developing technical documentation and training materials.
7. Quality Control and Compliance:
- Ensure all experimental procedures comply with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of results.
- Participate in regular audits and reviews to uphold high standards of laboratory practice.
8. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive laboratory notebooks detailing experimental procedures, results, and observations.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings to the FAS team and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific marketing material and publications.
9. Maintenance of Instruments and Inventory:
- Conduct quality control testing on demo instruments to ensure they are fully functional.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to carry out any necessary repairs.
- Order laboratory supplies and chemicals as needed.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory record of all instruments and laboratory supplies.
10. Shipment Handling
- Ship demo-instruments to customers and provide return labels for their return.
- Ship processed samples back to customers in a timely manner.
- Send and receive reagents and supplies as requested by the TAM or Sales team.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques including cloning, bacterial cultures, plasmid preparation, PCR, DNA sequencing, SDS PAGE, Western blot and protein purification.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in a wide range of molecular biology methods and techniques. Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret experimental data accurately.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document and present technical information clearly and concisely.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of laboratory work.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to develop effective solutions to technical challenges.
- Virtual Presentation Skills: Experience conducting virtual demos or presentations is highly desirable.
