Job Description

Gilead Sciences, Inc in La Verne, California is seeking a controls technician that has 5 plus years of experience who assists with trouble shooting activities around controls aspects of a system.

The following functions are considered essential for successful performance in this job description:

  • As a control's technician, you will be part of the maintenance team and perform the necessary preventative maintenance programs for the La Verne Pharmaceutical Facility.
  • Respond to maintenance emergencies in all La Verne's facilities as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Potentially work with construction and maintenance contractors to ensure the facility integrity.
  • Work is performed based on job plans scheduled through Maximo.
  • Work may require work from heights and close enclosures using ladders, lifts and scaffolding.
  • Good written skills are necessary to properly fill out preventative maintenance activities.
  • Share night/weekend/holiday work on a rotating, weekly basis with other employees in the department.
  • Works may be independently or with others on different projects.
  • The following are potential maintenance work that one might be asked to perform:
  • Inspect the facility for safety hazards and take appropriate action.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Have basic knowledge of a BMS and PCS control system along with Allen Bradley/Rockwell system knowledge.
  • Be able to troubleshoot from the control's aspect of the equipment.
  • Ability to produce and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to read control drawings and understand code.
  • Computer proficiency with Gilead systems as well as standard Windows Microsoft programs.
  • Have a good understanding of how control systems work and have a basic understanding of how pressure, flow level and temperature affect their systems.
  • Responsible for the understanding of commissioning, diagnosis, calibration, maintenance and repair of environmental-control systems and processes that utilize electronics, airflow, hydronics, refrigeration theory, pH sensors, flow meters, electrical meters and system control techniques.
  • Work with the site automation group.
  • Trouble shoot electrical controls related process issues.
  • Must be able to work in other areas when needed. This can include, but not limited to full gowning ISO 5 areas within the clean rooms.
  • Must act as the liaison between internal and external customers.
  • Experience with robotics will be a plus for this position.


Knowledge requirements:

  • H High School diploma or equivalent plus a minimum five (5) years' experience supplemented by studies or other vocational school OR Associates Degree plus a minimum of four (4) years of experience.
  • Completion of a private, military or trade school training program that includes theory and on-the-job work as it relates to controls.
  • Experience in other areas such as HVAC, electrical and plumbing a plus.
  • Good understanding of the GMP environment is a must.


Physical Abilities of job:

  • Sufficient strength to perform assigned tasks and to lift and carry various items weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and to lift to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance on an occasional basis.
  • Sufficient speech and hearing to permit the employee to communicate effectively with coworkers in person, over the telephone or over a radio.
  • Sufficient color vision to identify indicator lights on electronic control panels and electrical wiring.
  • Sufficient hearing to understand verbal instructions, respond to questions from the area.
  • Sufficient personal mobility permits the employee to work in confirmed spaces and operate required equipment safely in all types of weather and to go to work areas throughout the facility. This will require one to stoop, kneel, reach, turn, crawl, climb or crouch for an extended period in cramped or difficult to reach areas.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, safety vests, hearing protection, gloves.


The salary range for this position is: $78,455.00 - $101,530.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
