About the Role:

The Gastrointestinal and Inflammation (GI2) Drug Discovery Unit at Takeda is building a new team of experienced, innovative, and collaborative researchers to deliver an industry-leading portfolio of drugs for various gastrointestinal, autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases with high unmet medical needs. We seek a Research Associate Scientist to join our biology and cross-functional discovery teamsand create novel drug candidates.

  • Generate and execute preclinical development strategies to support candidate selection, facilitating efficient clinical validation of impactful medicines for patients with inflammatory disorders.
  • Apply deep scientific and technical expertise in immunology and/or cell biology to creatively mature innovative novel concepts within our team, in matrixed collaboration with other Takeda scientists, and external partners.
  • Drive an inclusive, open, and effective culture in a fast-growing drug discovery group.

Accountabilities:

  • Generate data packages supporting candidate selection and asset characterization based on current in vitro methods including immortalized cell lines, primary cell cultures, and multicellular or organoid culture models, preferably models that recapitulate cellular cross-talk in fibroinflammatory or diseased tissues
  • Champion scientific integrity and rigor in preparation and interpretation of detailed protocols/SOPs.
  • Independently plans assignments for a research work group or project, troubleshoots complex problems specialized procedures, and change experimental design if necessary.
  • Develops and validates new methods to support completion of complex assignments within a project
  • Exercises independent judgment (selecting most appropriate methods, coordinating efforts, evaluating criteria for obtaining results)
  • Utilizes technical literature to implement novel procedures, changes, and improvements within a project. Can duplicate and appropriately modify experimental procedures based on the literature.
  • Interprets and analyzes data, helping to incorporate results into overall scientific projects; Independently generates novel hypotheses
  • Maintains a proactive and vocal approach to improving departmental efficiency;
  • Able to summarize and present literature data within the department and occasionally to a broader audience

Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral):

  • MS in a scientific discipline with 3+ years’ experience, or BS with 5+ years’ experience
  • Expertise in at least one of the following assay methods: ELISA/MSD, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry, ChIP
  • Experience with cell culture, including isolation, culture, and analysis of primary immune cell subsets
  • Direct experience with the principles, models, and pathways of autoimmunity, inflammation, and/or fibrosis
  • Experience developing and/or evaluating small molecule, biologic and/or nucleic acid therapeutics
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred: familiarity with in vivo study design/execution; modern high-dimensional gene expression analysis (i.e., scRNAseq); multicellular culture systems (i.e., organoids)

This position is currently classified as “onsite” in Cambridge, MA.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$96,600.00 - $151,800.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
