Computational Biologist - Translational Bioinformatics

Remote, Hybrid, or On-site in Boulder, CO, United States

About the Team:

To make an impact in the care of cancer patients, we aim to build an environment where people with diverse skill sets, experience and a passion for building things are engaged and have room to be creative. We work to empower team members so they take ownership on projects with scope and complexity that allows them to flourish. We promote direct communication, lead by example and promote inclusivity by encouraging participation in light of each person’s work style.

About the Role:

As a Computational Biologist on our Translational Bioinformatics Team, you will use Foresight’s MRD detection technology to generate results and insights for our internal and external partners, including leading academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies. You will be responsible for executing pipelines and interpreting results, and delivering cutting-edge detection of circulating tumor DNA to partners. In this role, you will advance our understanding of cell-free DNA as a biomarker, support product development, and provide meaningful insights for Foresight’s clients. You will work closely with wetlab scientists and bioinformaticians to improve our technology.

Subject matter expertise in genomics, molecular diagnostics and liquid biopsy will be invaluable in applying the latest technologies to an expanding portfolio of academic and pharmaceutical partnerships. This role is hands-on technically and contributes to many different facets of Foresight’s dry translational research. This work requires excellent attention to detail, multitasking ability, flexibility with tasks and schedules, and capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

This position has flexibility for fully onsite, hybrid or remote work; if hired as remote worker, quarterly travel to our headquarters in Colorado is expected.

What you will bring:
  • MS or PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or related fields

  • Experience in utilizing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data pipelines, using standard NGS bioinformatics tools (e.g. samtools, bedtools, BWA, IGV)

  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and visualization using relevant Python or R packages (scipy, numpy, matplotlib, pandas, ggplot2, dplyr)

  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, or similar, comfort in working within a Linux server-based environment, and familiarity in code development with GitHub

  • Ability to work with both computational and experimental scientists within our highly collaborative environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills suitable for conveying information to both scientific and general audiences

What you will do:
  • Apply expert knowledge of molecular and computational biology to generate and interpret results for Foresight’s academic and pharmaceutical partners

  • Inform experimental design and provide real-time assessments of assay performance & quality control

  • Deliver analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results using cloud-based bioinformatic pipelines

  • Manage multiple simultaneous project timelines and data deliverables

  • Identify and communicate cumulative insights to both internal (e.g. computational and experimental teams) and external stakeholders

  • Keep Foresight at the forefront of clinical diagnostics by identifying and developing technological improvements through insights gained from accumulating partnership data

This is a remote position offering a salary between $110,718 - $147,463 and is eligible for equity offerings.

Foresight offers benefits including paid vacation, sick time, and parental leave (if applicable), alongside medical, dental, vision, life, disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, and a 401k with company match.

The application deadline for this position is November 15, 2024.

You will be working on interesting problems with extremely high impact.
