Platform Engineering team, within the larger Software Product Engineering organization is the group that is responsible for building and managing the platforms that power mission-critical Lilly applications across Commercial, Research & Development, Clinical Trials, and Manufacturing

What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will lead the Platform Engineering team responsible for building and managing the platforms that drive Lilly’s mission-critical applications across Commercial, Research & Development, Clinical Trials, and Manufacturing. Your scope will include overseeing both well-established platforms and those that are yet to be developed. You will take ownership of the platforms that support our software applications, while also playing a key role in the ideation, design, and development of future innovations. You’ll lead a large, geographically distributed engineering team across the US and India, ensuring the successful delivery of these essential initiatives. Our team operates in a fast-paced environment, focused on transforming engineering at Lilly.
- Define and drive the technical vision and strategy to build scalable, reliable, and secure platforms that support the evolving needs of Lilly’s Patient and Drug Discovery ecosystem.
- Lead the architecture decisions for technology innovation and be a thought partner/sounding board for your team, stakeholders, and partners.
- Balance immediate stakeholder needs vs longer-term vision
- Aggressively build API first and AI enabled platforms with a sense of urgency.
- Lead, build, mentor, coach, and inspire a high-performing team of frontend, backend, DevSecOps and full-stack engineers to execute a shared vision between engineering, product, and other stakeholders. Build team through thoughtful observation and courageous, honest feedback.
What You Should Bring:
- Experienced engineering manager with hiring and leading high-caliber multidisciplinary engineers.
- Managed high-visibility, customer-facing applications such as e-commerce or customer support systems, requiring high uptime and operational integrity.
- Deep expertise in architectural patterns for distributed applications is required.
- Customer obsessed and detail oriented with a knack for solving problems.
- Extensive hands-on Software engineering experience, with proficiency in any programming languages.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
- 3+ years of proven technical leadership, including managing engineering teams, system design, and technical stack.
Additional Skills:
- Experience in designing developer-focused platforms with an emphasis on DevX, building frameworks and tools for pro code users (e.g., APIs, SDKs, CI/CD pipelines).
- Effectively worked with senior leadership in setting strategic quarterly direction.
- Experience in leading tech transformation and platform refactoring.
- Experience in user centric designs and creating intuitive user flows is a plus.
- Experience in AI, ML, Gen AI, MLOps or LLMOps is a plus.
- Web security, Data engineering and Healthcare compliance experience is a plus.

- Hybrid role located in Indianapolis, IN (relocation required)
- <5% travel
