The Role

This is a summer co-op opportunity in Cambridge, MA from January 21, 2025 June 20, 2025. Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the co-op. Start date will be January 21, 2025.

The Infectious Disease Research-Virology organization at Moderna is looking for talent in science and virology to deliver on its mission to support pre-clinical viral vaccine development. You will collaborate with a team of experts to learn and apply advanced molecular biology techniques, contributing to the development and validation of new assays and evaluating samples in these assays. You will apply your educational background and learn new technical skills in virology, molecular biology, and general vaccinology.

Heres What Youll Do

• Collaborate with a team of highly skilled scientists to quickly gain proficiency in various molecular biology techniques and assays.

• Utilize laboratory, technical, and communication skills to generate experimental results, perform data analysis, and document findings in formal reports, including conclusions and recommended next steps.

• Participate in the planning, design, execution, and analysis of experiments aimed at answering pre-clinical viral vaccine development questions and testing vaccine immunogenicity.

• Support the development and optimization of new molecular biology assays, including quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting techniques.

• Assist in the inventory and organization of vaccine program-specific reagents.

• Review and share relevant academic literature with the team to support ongoing research.

• Prepare technical reports and present findings in team meetings.

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

• Current student enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Biology, Virology, Vaccinology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related field

• Strong foundational knowledge and experience in fundamental scientific techniques, with an emphasis on the evaluation of experimental data.

• Laboratory skills applicable to molecular biology and wet-lab based experiments

• GPA of 3.5 on a 4 scale or equivalent

• Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as the ability to contribute to high performing teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
