Summary / purpose of the position

Reporting to the VP of U.S. Medical Affairs Rare Disease, the Director, Medical Affairs, Cholestatic Diseases, will Lead and oversee some of the Elafibranor Medical Strategic Team activities, aligning with the overall goals of the US and Global Rare Disease teams. The Director will serve as the primary medical and scientific expert for the therapeutic area, providing guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders. The Director will develop and execute the medical strategies and overall US medical affairs plan for adult cholestatic diseases, including leading the cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of medical strategies: review medical information responses (in collaboration with Medical Information), the scientific communications including poster presentations and publications (in conjunction with the Publication team), the design and medical monitoring of US-based clinical studies, and the review and approval of educational grants. The Director provides guidance for the focus of the MSL team, reviewing and analyzing field insights, leading regional advisory boards, assessing investigator-sponsored study (ISS) requests, working with knowledge transfer (global and local) providing internal (& relevant external) training, and preparing/supervising responses to Medical Information requests so that customers will be informed about adult cholestatic diseases products and therapeutic areas in which Ipsen markets. Key internal partners include the Global/local Medical Affairs and clinical operations group running the adult cholestatic diseases studies, the adult cholestatic diseases commercial team, and global adult cholestatic diseases franchise medical personnel.

Main responsibilities / job expectations

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and external stakeholders to gather insights and support medical strategies.
  • Lead, when appropriate, content development and presentation for external medical education programs
  • In collaboration with the Knowledge Transfer Director, ensure appropriate scientific, disease and Ipsen product training for the MSL team and other internal partners.
  • Review and approval of promotional and medical material.
  • Through the Medical Affairs Information Dept and MSL team, create & disseminate medically sound information to support the safe & effective use of elafibranor (adhering to Regulatory and Ipsen guidelines)
  • Identify the need and provide directions on the development of proactive and reactive field materials as needed (e.g., FAQs, medical objection handler, advisory board content) with input from field teams.
  • Contribute to the scientific publication plan in the US and design and run clinical studies in conjunction with Medical Affairs Operations group.
  • Lead the planning and execution of Medical congress activities.
  • Attend relevant congresses to conduct scientific exchange and congress coverage.
  • Lead and execute national and regional advisory boards.
  • Lead the Medical Strategic teams ensuring cross-functional teams are aligned with Ipsen’s Rare Disease medical/scientific strategic goals.
  • Support the development and budget oversight of medical activities for adult cholestatic diseases.
  • Manage Travel and Expense budget in keeping with Ipsen guidelines.
  • Complies with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Ipsen U.S. staff.

Knowledge, abilities & experience

Education / Certifications:

  • MD, PharmD, or PhD with 5-8 years in pharma industry with relevant Medical Affairs strategy experience required.

Experience:

  • 8 years of experience in adult liver diseases, or rare diseases.
  • Experience in presenting and publishing scientific information a plus.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design, biostatistics

Languages:

  • Fluent in English

The annual base salary range for this position is $177,000-$259,600.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentives program as well as our long-term incentives program.

The pay range displayed above is the range of base pay compensation within which Ipsen expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting. Individual compensation within this range depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, prior education and experience, job-related knowledge and demonstrated skills.
