R&D Strategy and Operations is focusing on driving innovation beyond the molecule and applying strategies to simplify processes, improve success rates, accelerate pipeline progression, ultimately expediting the path to patient value and access. Amgen is seeking a versatile and ambitious Strategic Collaboration Management, Sr Manager who will report to the Director, Strategy within Research and Development Strategy and Operations (RDSO) and will be part of a team helping to support Amgens efforts in precision medicine by developing and executing strategic programs and optimizing our genetics and omics collaborations.

The RDSO team is developing a world-class capability in strategic planning and business operations to keep Amgen at the forefront of biopharma R&D. To reflect the increased importance of leveraging genetics and omics data, the RDSO will lead key programs, integrating the vast array of data and analytic resources into the planning and execution of our research and development programs, transforming the speed, efficiency, and impact of our work.

The Sr. Manager will work closely with leadership at Amgen and deCODE Genetics in developing & executing strategies while finding opportunities to align, improve and re-design processes and tools. In addition, they will participate in R&D-wide strategic initiatives to improve operational efficiency and enable the organizational vision to be achieved. This role will also be required to engage with cross-functional partners in Amgen, such as Research, Development, deCODE, Biomarkers, Business Development, Law, and Finance.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports cross-functional teams in the development and advancement of Amgens vision in precision medicine, supporting the execution and management of strategic initiatives and partnerships.
  • Serves as a conduit between R&D leadership and scientists (including deCODE), translating the needs of the business into clear execution plans.
  • Facilitates collaboration across R&D functions (including deCODE) to ensure effective and efficient execution of strategic programs.
  • Serves as the liaison for key strategic genetics related collaborations to ensure Amgen and deCODE achieve the envisioned goals and value from each collaboration.
  • Organizes and leads the design, execution, and follow-up of internal and external strategic meetings.
  • Recommends and develops operational or process improvements for the performance and successful functioning of project teams
  • Maintains visibility into the genetics, omics, and precision health ecosystem to identify key trends and opportunities to shape Amgens efforts in precision medicine
  • Supports other RDSO ad-hoc projects and activities as necessary through problem tracking and solving, organizational management, and presentation development.

This position is currently located in our corporate headquarters, located in Thousand Oaks, CA, but remote locations will be considered for the right candidate.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 6 years of directly related industry experience OR
  • Masters degree and 8 years of directly related industry experience OR
  • Bachelors degree and 10 years of directly related industry experience

Preferred Skills:

  • 6+ years experience in biotechnology / pharmaceutical / healthcare industry
  • Robust knowledge of biopharma industry, human data (multi-omics), precision medicine and the healthcare industry in general
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with internal and external leaders across a variety of functions (e.g. Research, Development, deCODE, Biomarkers, Business Development, Law, Finance) to drive decisions and influence behaviors and outcomes
  • Experience managing or working on partnerships with pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology organizations
  • Experience interpreting and applying contractual terms to manage a business relationship
  • Ability to engage different personalities and levels within the organization, particularly senior and executive management
  • High emotional intelligence, coupled with refined interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and relationship management skills
  • Strong project management and facilitation skills, including, solution-oriented problem solving
  • Inquisitive, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to research, learn and synthesize findings rapidly on new topics
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with little oversight and has outstanding time management and self-prioritization skills
  • Strategic agility: proven ability to translate strategy to execution

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
