The Manager, Finance will provide operational support and serve as the Finance lead to several areas within Research and Clinical. Key activities will include ensuring clinical trial accrual accounting is complete and accurate and working closely with various department heads in support of periodic budgeting, forecasting, and reporting requirements. The role is an integral part of a growing finance and accounting team and needs to have strong operational experience with full-cycle accounts payable, month-end close process, and FP&A operations. The Manager, Finance will report into the Senior Director, Finance - R&D.


Responsibilities

    Work with project managers to develop forecasts by activity for pre-clinical programs and monitor actuals vs. forecast on an ongoing basis 
  • Manage and coordinate planning/forecasting exercises to meet corporate reporting schedules and goals 
  • Monitor the performance of R&D service providers, pre-clinical trial activity and costs
  • Work with clinical business leads to review contracts to gain an understanding of planned projects, ensure consistency in contract terms, and identify and then work to get approval for exemptions
  • Liaise with Research and clinical business leads to review monthly finance reports, identify, and communicate any material risks and/or opportunities, and discuss/research budget line-item variances 
  • For applicable studies, ensure all required budget and actual data (CRO costs, # of sites, site costs, # of patients, invoice details, PO details, and other key data) is loaded timely and accurately into Condor to ensure proper accrual calculations
  • Using Condor, review accrual calculations for reasonableness and accuracy, compare actual vs. budgeted spend and investigate/understand any significant variances. Prepare roll forwards of activity for significant clinical studies
  • Prepare and post monthly JE’s related to clinical trial accruals
  • Collaborate with Research, clinical business leads, and contracts to gain an understanding of drafted contracts and work orders for planned projects 
  • Assist PO owners with monthly accruals for open purchase orders and/or determine prepaid expenses at each period end
  • Coordinate with accounting regarding monthly & quarterly accruals – ensure coding accuracy to G/L
  • Proactively examine research and clinical purchase orders to assess percentage completion or timing of delivery of goods or services
  • Assist Finance Management on ad hoc projects as needed

Requirements

    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred; CPA is preferred
  • Pharmaceutical/life science/clinical experience is required
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and expense recognition criteria
  • Expertise with PowerPoint and Excel including experience in building detailed financial models
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Detail-oriented with outstanding organization skills and accuracy,
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Results driven team player who leads by example and takes full ownership of work
  • Demonstration of a high level of character and ethics to support company’s Code and Values

Manager, Finance  Base Salary Range $110,000 - $135,000
