In this vital role you will be part of the Molecular Analytics group providing scientific and technical expertise to support early discovery research through to later stage molecule optimization and late-stage selection of Amgens pipeline of drug candidates. This position is an exciting opportunity to unlock the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform protein, peptide, PTM, glycan analysis and characterization by mass spectrometry, using RPLC-MS, RPLC-MS/MS, MALDI-MS, native-MS and other hyphenated MS analytical capabilities to support the diverse early-stage pipeline.

  • Execute and develop sensitive high-throughput, low material consumption assays to assess mAbs, MsAbs, mAb-fusions, ADCs and other biotherapeutics physical, chemical, thermal and colloidal stability and manufacturability using multiple analytical techniques, including, but not limited to, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS.

  • Implement new analytical technologies, including but not limited to MS, that will support the early-stage pipeline.

  • Generate, process and use large analytical data sets for the application of biomolecule attribute and manufacturability prediction and machine learning purposes

  • Manage timelines, therapeutic projects and cross functional teams and departmental collaborations

  • Communicate (verbal and in written) scientific concepts and results

  • Work independently in advancing projects and studies within required deadlines

  • Keep current with field of expertise, participate and advance drug development, technologies and information services programs within Amgen

  • Demonstrate external scientific eminence in the form of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations

  • Follow protocols and procedures, maintain accurate records in an electronic lab notebook, and generate quality data for use in drug development and regulatory filings

Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD and Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent OR

  • Masters degree and 3 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent experience OR

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD or Post-Doc level qualification with an emphasis in mass spectrometric analytical characterization.

  • A deep understanding of mass spectrometric, intact and sub-unit protein mass analysis, bottom up RPLC-MSMS approaches and other protein structural analytical methods and techniques will be advantageous. Experience with Agilent LC-TOF/QTOF MS, Thermo Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid MS is highly desired.

  • 1-3 years of biopharmaceutical experience with therapeutic protein analysis is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of Protein Metrics and Genedata Software is advantageous.

  • Experience with Bruker MALDI-TOF will be advantageous.

  • Experience using automation (for example Assay MAP Bravo or TECAN) is a plus.

  • A track record of publications and conference presentations is essential.

  • Knowledge of AI/ML processes is a plus.

  • Knowledge of multiple chromatographic software (ChemStation, Chromeleon) would be advantageous.

  • Relevant experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical setting would also be an advantage.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
