We are seeking a highly motivated Molecular Biologist with experience in biotherapeutics discovery to join the Biologics Automation and High Throughput Technologies group at Lilly’s Biotechnology Center in San Diego. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of molecular biology techniques with industry-based experience in leveraging automation to accelerate, improve and facilitate biotherapeutics discovery.

 Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of high-performing Molecular Biologists employing state of the art integrated automation workstations and standalone equipment in the execution of high throughput molecular biology procedures to support of Lilly’s early-stage biotherapeutics discovery pipeline.

  • Work collaboratively with protein discovery, engineering, and expression groups at the San Diego site to optimize research efficiencies through implementation of automation process improvements and advanced molecular biology techniques.

  • Lead the identification, validation, and enablement of novel ultra-high throughput protein-based discovery technologies (e.g., single cell microfluidic technologies, protein microarrays etc.).

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or similar field), with at least five years of relevant industry experience in a biotech/pharmaceutical company, OR

  • M.S in Biological Sciences with a minimum of 15 years relevant industry experience 

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience in high throughput single cell microfluidic technologies or protein microarrays for sequencing and functional characterization of proteins is strongly advantageous.
    Deep understanding of modern molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, vector preparation and host cell manipulation is required.

  • Familiarity with the use of integrated automation workstations and stand-alone liquid handlers to accelerate, improve and facilitate biotherapeutics discovery is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in high throughput single cell microfluidic technologies or protein microarrays for sequencing and functional characterization of proteins is strongly advantageous.

  • A demonstrated record of applying innovative high throughput technologies in the area of antibody discovery and protein engineering.

  • Previous industry experience in directing the work and managing career development of associate scientists.

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills including the ability to work with automation engineers, and discovery scientists.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, as exemplified by an aptitude for clear record-keeping, and data analysis, as well as the ability to prioritize work across multiple projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
