The Utilities Operations Mechanic serves on a team that operates and maintains all utilities systems at Lilly Technology Center (LTC) for all North and South plant sites (high purity water, compressed gases, steam, chilled water, glycol, city water, and sewers). This position is responsible to ensure that all UMS alarms for LTC, and remote sites are monitored and responded to accordingly, while maintaining a cost effective and compliant operation. This position is Mon-Fri 8hr Dayshift or potentially 3-2-2-3 12hr Night shift position with core working hours 04:00 PM to 04:15 AM.
LTC Utilities Operations Mechanic Key Objectives/Deliverables
Perform operator-based maintenance, clean equipment, systems, and facilities.
Troubleshoot and diagnose process problems and take appropriate actions to minimize deviations or site impact
Operate maintain utility systems in control and compliant with procedures and regulations while optimizing efficiency. Start, stop and regenerate equipment to meet schedule and demand including operations mechanical maintenance activities
Position requires strict compliance with safety rules and closely following approved procedures for ensuring cGMP compliance. All work performed must be documented by following Good Documentation practices.
Consult on technical issues with operators, engineers, and crafts.
Update and maintain operations shift log, daily alarm reports and general communication to the utilities operations support teams
Understand the process for accessing data mining, process monitoring, and tuning parameters and utilize data historian (trends) to assist determining process operation upsets
Actively participate with operations activities associated with improving, modifying, controlling, and implementing GMARS procedures/equipment records, maintenance action plans, lock out tag out, job plans, and assist with shutdown planning
Participate and actively provide support daily assignment and activities associated with, Utilities Operations Process Teams, Utilities Maintenance, Vendors, Contractors, Committees, Health, Behavior Based Safety (BBS) and individually contribute to achieve all departmental, site, and/or company goals
Maintain efficient and effective communications with Utilities engineers, operations, and maintenance and support communications between shifts, Maintenance, Engineering, and Automation including site customers to help keep them informed of any issues that could affect them.
Fully use Performance Management to manage objectives and development that align with organizational and corporate priorities.
Use of information systems to complete work and communicate with customers (i.e., GMARS, CMMS, Word, Excel, UMS etc.)
Demonstrate abilities by completing the Qualified Employee Program training and maintain 100% compliance on training requirements.
Comply with all Health Safety Environment (HSE) aspects and departmental HSE plans, participate in Safety Improvement activities, report all near miss incidents and meet all annual Process Safety Management (PSM) goals and targets.
Basic Requirements
Minimum 2 years of Utilities Operations/Maintenance experience
Minimum High School Graduate Education with Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation training preferred
Other Information:
- This position is for 8 hr shift Mon-Fri. Dayshift or potentially 3-2-2-3 shift 12 hour Nights. This position includes working weekends and holidays.
Hazardous operations exist within Utilities, involving exposure to systems using acid, steam, caustic, high pressure, and high temperatures. Personal protective equipment is required.
Awkward positions, cramped quarters, ladders, and scaffolding work will be required at times.
Mechanical Trades and previous Plant Utilities experience preferred
Must have mechanical aptitude and be familiar utilities/maintenance processes
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Must be willing to respond to call-in and scheduled overtime work
Must be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds
Must be able to withstand exposure to temperature variations while performing work outside in winter and summer weather conditions
Must be able to wear respiratory equipment
