The Position

The Marketing Excellence and Futures Lead is a visionary role dedicated to optimizing our marketing operations and guiding our organization towards a future of innovative and impactful practices. This leader will enhance the marketing experience by reducing friction, spearhead the adoption of emerging trends and technologies, and elevate our marketing team's capabilities through continuous learning and development. They will cultivate a dynamic marketing community, anchored in a social collaboration space, where knowledge sharing, and co-creation thrive. Additionally, this role involves orchestrating an outside-in perspectives series with guest speakers to workshop and equip our marketers with sustainable tools to excel. The lead will also organize and run an annual marketing summit, bringing together the best minds to shape the future of our marketing endeavors.

 

Relationships

Reports to Head of Commercial Excellence and Innovation. Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including marketing, analytics, HR, employee experience and technology/IT, to identify innovative channel/content and implement initiatives within marketing plans. Communicates innovative strategies to therapeutic area marketing teams. The marketing futures and excellence lead has a team reporting to them potentially inclusive of a commercial capabilities and competencies manager and a marketing community manager.

 

Essential Functions

  • Strategic Vision and Leadership: Define the future direction of innovative marketing strategies, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term goals. Act as a thought leader, maintaining an outside-in perspective to drive innovation and excellence
  • Industry Thought Leadership: Manage and cultivate industry thought leadership by staying updated on trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums to promote thought leadership on marketing innovation
  • Marketer Experience Reimagined: Augment and or streamline workflows/processes, while collaborating across departments to reduce friction and improve the day-to-day experience for the marketing team - enabling them to accelerate time to value
  • Innovation and Trend Adoption: Actively track and implement value-generating trends, technologies (such as Gen AI), and methodologies to advance our marketing practices
  • Professional Growth: Collaborate with HR to ensure continuous upskilling in essential marketing competencies
  • Marketing Community Management: Develop and manage a social collaboration space for the marketing community, promoting a culture of sharing, innovation, and co-creation
  • Outside-In Perspectives & Cross-Functional Knowledge Sharing: Lead a speaker series that brings external expertise into the organization, providing workshops and tools for marketers and broader commercial organization to foster a culture of curiosity, creativity, and customer-centricity
  • Annual Marketing Summit: Plan and execute annual marketing summit that unites internal and external marketing professionals to discuss trends, strategies, and future directions
  • Organizational Preparedness: Assess NNI’s readiness for future looking marketing shifts, including emerging channels and technology. Work closely with technology and data science teams to understand the capabilities and limitations of emerging technologies or channels. Develop strategies and recommendations to ensure the organization is well-prepared for upcoming trends
  • Roadmap Development: Assess risks, market opportunities and provide investment recommendations or prioritizations. Develop and manage a marketing roadmap that outlines future initiatives and aligns with business objectives
  • Innovation Experimentation: Develop and execute experiments to test the feasibility and effectiveness of innovative marketing strategies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and identify therapy areas and brands best suited for experimentation. Leverage experiments or pilots to understand how to best engage in emerging channels/technology
  • People Development and Coaching: Responsible for setting and communicating clear individualized role expectations for each report based on position, skills, talents, and objectives. Ensure that reporting personnel have strengths-based individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business. Provide regular coaching of reports that prioritizes appropriate challenging, development, feedback, regular recognition, and support

    Approximately 20-30% overnight travel.

     

    Development of People

    Supervisory

    Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

     

    Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

     

    Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

     

    Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in marketing or product management, including demonstrated history in marketing with a focus on innovation and emerging trends
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to and embrace new technologies and trends in a rapidly evolving marketing landscape
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence concepts and applications in marketing. Familiarity with emerging marketing technologies
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and executing marketing experiments to test new marketing concepts and strategies
  • Proven track record of innovative market tactics/high impact results (based on metrics/ROI)
  • Strategic Planning, Execution and follow-through skills required
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex trends and strategies to diverse stakeholders and teams
  • Proficiency in market research and data analysis tools
  • Experience leading and implementing organizational change initiatives
  • A passion for innovation and staying ahead of industry trends
  • Experience with management of outside agencies
  • Embodies leadership behaviors, including authenticity, servant leadership, will, empathy, decisiveness, and driving focus and simplicity
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • People management experience required, with a proven track record of development and coaching
