Data Scientist II, Computational Biology

The Role:

Life Edit Therapeutics seeks to hire a data scientist in the computational biology domain with a background in genomics and data engineering to help discover and engineer proteins to become important components of Life Edit Therapeutics’ gene editing technology portfolio. Candidates should possess a combination of professional experience in interpreting biological sequence information and scientific software engineering. This position will contribute to Life Edit's technology platform with focus on leveraging protein language models and conventional machine learning as it relates to protein engineering. Life Edit Therapeutics is a dynamic and intellectually challenging workplace with projects that span discovery and development of novel gene editing tools to therapeutic applications for clinical indications.

Here’s What You Will Do:

• Contribute to the discovery and engineering of proteins for Life Edit Therapeutics’ industry leading gene editing portfolio
• Impact our protein engineering and discovery strategies based on previous experience and familiarity with state-of-the-art computational approaches
• Create and operate genomics pipelines to analyze protein discovery and engineering data
• Maintain a current understanding of relevant scientific literature
• Work closely with wet-lab scientists to develop tools and infrastructure to support laboratory operations
• Present work at company-wide meetings

Requirements:

• PhD in computational biology or a related field with 0-5 years of post-graduate school experience
• Experience with Python, specifically the Python data science technology stack:
  • Pandas/Polars, Altair/Matplotlib, Dash/Streamlit, etc.
• Domain expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, or related discipline
• Demonstrated ability and desire to collaborate in a team-oriented and fast paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with CRISPR editing is preferred
• Familiarity with the Python ecosystem for machine learning and neural networks (e.g. PyTorch/Scikit-Learn)
• Experience working in a cross-disciplinary genomics research team
• Experience managing cloud infrastructure
• State-of-the-art knowledge in biological sequence analysis
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
