Amgen is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support late stage process development work to advance the Amgen pipeline as part of Pivotal Drug Substance Process Development organization. The Pivotal Drug Substance Process Development organization at Amgen develops, characterizes, and supports the commercialization of the drug substance manufacturing processes for all late-stage programs across the Amgen portfolio. This role is integrated cross-functionally with Pre-Pivotal Attribute Sciences and Drug Substance Technologies Synthetics.

  • We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to join our cross-functional team and work on a project aiming to characterize the relationship between cell culture conditions and product quality attributes

  • The selected candidate will develop scale-down cell culture models and use purification & analytical methods including an automated liquid handling system to purify proteins and execution of peptide mapping workflows.

  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in cell culture and experience in analytical chemistry techniques such as LC-MS or other relevant techniques.

  • Design, perform, and analyze experiments using scale-down cell culture models to determine impact of cell culture parameters on key product quality attributes.

  • Develop and optimize protocols and methods for cell culture characterization and LC-MS analysis.

  • Collaborate with other researchers in the department and external partners to inform experimental plans and hypotheses and integrate data and findings from different sources and disciplines.

  • Prepare and present research results in scientific meetings and publications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD at time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a related field

  • Consistent track record of problem solving and troubleshooting protein drug substance processes including cell culture process development, cell line development, and/ or high throughput screening technologies

  • Demonstrated expertise in mammalian cell culture including aseptic technique

  • Hands-on experience in analytical methodology, such as LC-MS, HPLC, or other relevant techniques.

  • Understanding of protein characteristics, protein chemistry, posttranslational modification and critical attributes to direct cell culture process development and control strategies

  • Familiarity with laboratory automation, data analysis and visualization techniques and tools

  • Highly motivated individual, who takes initiative and has strong interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal skills

  • Works effectively in a diverse and multi-disciplinary team including cell culture scientists, analytical scientists, engineers, and chemists

  • Critical thinking, problem solving and independent research skills.

  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail

  • Strong ability to operate well in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and collaborate successfully cross-functionally

The position is for two years and will start on or after 9/30/2024.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
