General Scope and Summary

The Data Engineering Team, part of the Digital and Enterprise Capabilities Group (DEC), is responsible for driving the strategy, implementation, and delivery of data and analytics capabilities across Sage's marketing and market access functions. This central team aims to deliver "Next-Gen Value" by establishing core data and analytics capabilities necessary to manage and utilize data as a vital enterprise asset. The Commercial Data Engineering Consultant will lead end to end deployment of data products supporting Marketing and Market access sub-functions, from deployment to production/release management while upholding Sages standard processes and deliverables.

Roles and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Data Engineering: Design, Develop and Maintain scalable and efficient data processing solutions using best in class big data technologies and frameworks. The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of DEC and be responsible for many aspects of data including creation of data-as-a-product, architecture, access, standards, integration, and pipelines. The key focus will be on the enablement of data for the commercial functions specifically Marketing and Market Access sub functions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with marketing and market access stakeholders to gather requirements, align technology solutions, and support the strategic goals of these functions.
  • Project Delivery: Translate business requirements into high and low-level architecture and design documentation for data projects. Deliver projects on time and on/under budget with major focus on quality, accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of data integration processes.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver scalable data solutions. Work within a larger team that consists of internal resources and external partners upholding standards and best practices and foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Maintenance and Trouble Shooting: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of data solutions to facilitate smooth handover and continuity post-project completion. Troubleshoot and resolve any/all data-related issues promptly to adhere to the SLAs defined.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Work on technical assessments of vendor products and new technologies, ensuring they meet performance, capacity, and stability requirements.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, ability to identify issues and raise to key stakeholders to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with 8+ years of experience in data engineering and Commercial data product development
  • 5+ years of experience building large-scale data platforms in the healthcare or life sciences industries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in Marketing and Market Access domains to drive business value.
  • Proficiency with data technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and advanced analytics.
  • Proficiency with data integration, big data, AI, and machine learning concepts.
  • Proficiency in any of the orchestration tools (Airflow, Tivoli, RunMyjobs etc.)
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as python, Java or Scala.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, schema design and data architecture principles.
  • Strong technical and architectural skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in a simple manner.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop realistic solutions and recommendations.
  • Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.
  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution oriented.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
