The Non-Clinical Safety and Veterinary Sciences organization enables the safe conduct of clinical studies and marketing applications while applying the core underlying principles of robust science & problem solving, 3R's (reduce, replace, and refine), animal welfare, and quality & compliance to our nonclinical efforts. Job Responsibilities:
- Complies with safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), GLP guidelines, and study protocols; independently drafts or revises SOPs.
- Performs basic and specialized testing of preclinical animal specimens for clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urine analyses; processes samples; manual microscopic review of blood smears and urine sediment preparations, as needed; enters data into spreadsheets and proofreads data entries, tables, and reports for accuracy against source data.
- Independently operates, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots routine analytical instruments and equipment; with minimal assistance, operates and maintains specialized equipment (e.g. flow cytometer, immunoassay plate readers, etc.); documents corrective action; serves as a principal operator; proactively recognizes analytical problems and takes appropriate action.
- Maintains QC systems for analytical instruments and specific assays; recommends and documents QC corrective actions
- Inventories laboratory supplies/reagents; if a principal operator, serves as vendor contact for that instrument; organizes clinical pathology study specimens and study files for archival.
- Serves as a principal investigator to verify new analytical instruments and assays as assigned by supervisor and in partnership with the department veterinary clinical pathologist; with minimal assistance, performs and documents method-development experiments.
- Stays current in the field of Clinical Pathology through regular review of literature and participation in professional laboratory organizations and meetings. Identifies/communicates new technical information.
- Bachelor's Degree 2+ years of academic / industry experience
- MLT(ASCP) certification is required
- B.S./B.A. with a minimum of 2-4 years relevant experience or M.S. with a minimum of 1-2 years experience in a clinical pathology laboratory.
- MT(ASCP) certification is preferred.
- Experience using basic and advanced computer programs and laboratory data collection systems is preferred.
- Experience with operation of clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and/or urine analyzers as well as microscopy of peripheral blood and urine samples is required; experience with microscopy of animal samples is preferred. Experience performing ELISA and MSD immunoassays a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, proactive mindset, a committed team-player, and a genuine desire to contribute to the drug develop efforts of BMS.
