SUMMARY:

Lundbeck La Jolla Research Center, Inc. (LLJRC), a discovery research arm of H. Lundbeck A/S, is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic Scientist in the In Vivo Pharmacology team to support preclinical stage programs in the portfolio and make transformative medicines for patients with brain diseases.  The successful candidate will work as a member of multidisciplinary teams, applying a deep theoretical and practical knowledge of in vivo pharmacology concepts to drive Lundbeck’s discovery programs. This scientist should thrive in a fast-paced environment and highly collaborative environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • As a member of the in vivo pharmacology team, provides regular delivery of high-quality data to progress projects
  • Contributes to multi-disciplinary project teams in developing innovative, high-quality, small molecule therapeutics
  • Approximately 75% of work is lab-based and focuses on development and execution of in vivo assays to identify pharmacologically active compounds and evaluate mechanism-of-action of new drug candidates
  • Independently designs and manages routine experiments, e.g. in vivo pharmacokinetic or pharmacology screening of novel compounds
  • Under minimal supervision, proposes next steps for a project and contributes to development and execution of complex and specialized experiments, e.g. in vivo pharmacodynamic or disease models, behavioral assays, studies interrogating mechanism-of-action, in vivo surgical or collection of nervous system tissues, etc.
  • Responsible for experimental design, data recording and analysis, preparation of reports and presentations to project teams
  • Ensure ethical use of animals in compliance with all regulatory requirements.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS:

  • Accredited B.S. with 10+ years or MS with 6+ years relevant laboratory experience or Ph.D. 
  • Proficient with mouse and rat in vivo techniques including administration of small molecule test articles by multiple routes of administration, blood sampling and tissue collection including collection of nervous system tissues.
  • Experienced with in vivo disease model and assay development.
  • Ability to work independently to design and manage complex experiments and capacity to propose solutions by analyzing experimental outcomes and conducting reviews of scientific publications to address research inquiries.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication and presentation skills.
  • Both effective team player and strong individual contributor, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks and deliver high-quality results under tight timelines

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS:

  • Accreddited B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in biology, neuroscience, pharmacology or a related subject
  • Experience in models of neurological diseases
  • Experience with ex vivo tissue processing and analytical assays including ELISA, MSD, transcriptomics, FACS, histology a plus
  • Management of in vivo pharmacology studies at CROs and / or academic institutions

 

TRAVEL:

  • Willingness/Ability to travel up to 5% domestically. International travel may be occasionally required.

The range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of California, if selected for this role, and may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $120,000 - $145,000 and eligibility for a 15% bonus target based on company and individual performance.
