Job Description

Objectives:

  • Provide strategic commercial leadership for Neuroscience pipeline product candidates in early to late-stage development.
  • Provide commercial assessment of business development opportunities.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop, refine, and implement therapeutic area strategies across the Franchise and in regions.
  • Lead brand planning process across Neuroscience GPLS (Global Portfolio & Launch Strategy) to upskill our approach for early and late-stage assets.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic commercial leadership for pipeline product candidates in early and late-stage development.
  • This role requires flexibility to respond to the franchise's evolving needs, as assets are in different phases and will develop at different rates. Various key projects and initiatives will arise, and reprioritization will be ongoing.
  • Represent the commercial point of view for business development opportunities.
  • Lead Commercial sub-team within Global Program Teams to shape clinical development plans, inform global commercialization assessments, and launch strategies.
  • Responsible for building and aligning the matrixed organization on the early commercial efforts, partnering with global and regional partners to identify and manage gaps /opportunities.
  • Lead the development of target product profiles (TPPs) and target product claims (TPCs) based on a thorough understanding of market dynamics and potential future trends.
  • Proactively partner with all relevant stakeholders across Takeda divisions (e.g., R&D, Regions, GMS, etc.) to develop, refine, and implement commercial therapeutic area strategies.
  • Evaluate market environments, collaborate closely with internal and external thought leaders and key customers in identifying unmet needs, and translate information into strategies to achieve short-term and long-term franchise objectives.

Core Elements:

  • Neuroscience is an important franchise in driving future growth for Takeda, with the team tackling some of the most challenging neurological and neuromuscular diseases with known high failure rates when compared to other disease areas.
  • A unique mixture of strategic planning, early market preparation planning, and launch activation activities across the multi-asset orexin franchise, pivoting to launch preparation in close partnership with regional teams to establish our leadership foundation with a transformative therapy as well as LCM (life cycle management) activities.

Technical/Functional Expertise:

  • Evaluate the external environment, anticipate potential future scenarios, and develop alternative strategies.
  • Quickly identify key stakeholders, proactively seek to understand their perspectives and motivation.
  • Ability to understand and interpret medical information; working knowledge of evidence-based medicine.
  • Knowledge of global drug development and commercialization requirements to ensure robust clinical development and global commercialization strategies.
  • Expert in brand planning.

Leadership:

  • Lead Commercial sub-team – with senior representatives from the US, China, Japan, EUCAN, Medical, IPS, Market Access, Insights, and Forecasting.
  • Hold self, and others, to high standards for cross-functional team performance. Build and model a culture of questioning, constructive challenge, and collaboration to foster openness and candid dialogue among the business, regions, and other decision-making bodies. Comfortable managing up and down.

  • The neuroscience portfolio is broad, requiring understanding of multiple disease areas and different modalities while identifying commonalities and trends.
  • Must take a Global view to define commercial strategies, recognizing differences in regulatory, legal, and unmet patient needs across key regions.
  • Working across cultures – recognizing different business, clinical, and legal practices; keeping compliance with Takeda’s values and SOPs.

Education, Behavioral Competencies, and Skills:

Required:

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (minimum); MBA or science-related graduate degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech, new product planning, commercial marketing/sales and / or market insights experience that clearly demonstrates strategic thinking and deep analytics.
  • Must be a strong communicator, able to confidently present findings to top level executives, as well as able to represent the commercial perspective to senior members within different functions of the organization.
  • Ability to understand Global market trends, financial data, customer needs and assess competitive intelligence data.

Desired:

  • Rare disease experience is highly desired but not required, Neuroscience experience strongly preferred.
  • Global and regional/country marketing experience, focus on developing markets and launching brands.
  • Market access and pricing, brand planning, KOL engagement, strategy consulting, and market research.

Other:

  • Domestic and international travel 20%.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$169,400.00 - $266,200.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
