We are seeking a Contracts Attorney who wants to contribute to the growth of a thriving, clinical-stage biotech. You must excel working in a fast-paced, cross-functional, team-oriented environment. In this role, you will be a generalist with a focus on drafting and negotiating contracts important to the strategic objectives of the company and provide sound legal advice on contract escalation issues.
The Contracts Attorney will have the opportunity to contribute to key strategic initiatives, as well as operational matters across many functional areas including Clinical, Research, CMC and IT. They will be spearheading contracts management function projects like leading the contracts management system, and creating, and implementing new processes, trainings and systems related to managing the company’s agreements with the opportunity to assist with other legal matters as they arise. This individual will be an integral member of a small but growing legal team at ALX Oncology with the opportunity to collaborate with experienced corporate and IP legal team members.
Position Responsibilities
- Drafting, negotiating, and executing biotechnology related contracts, including master service agreements, material transfer agreements, consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, research agreements and clinical trial site agreements and related statements of work.
- Control and maintain contracts management system and associated contracting processes, including providing company-wide trainings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with business owners to provide practical advice on potential business and legal risks of various contracts.
- Coordinate with the finance and procurement teams to ensure compliance with internal contracts approval procedures and SOX controls.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and prioritization skills needed to manage multiple, parallel processes at any given time.
- Support other legal matters as they arise.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- J.D. from an accredited university and bar admission required.
- 8+ years’ experience drafting and negotiating agreements, including master service agreements, research agreements, clinical trial agreements SaaS agreements and manufacturing or supply chain agreements, in the life sciences/pharma industry.
- Preferred candidates will have at 5+ years of applicable law firm experience as well as previous experience working on an in-house legal team.
- People management experience preferred.
- Familiarity managing contracts management systems such as Evisort or Cobblestone preferred.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and desire to engage collaboratively required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Must exercise sound judgment and enjoy engaging with many different functions across the company.

The successful candidate will be required to reside within a commutable distance of our South San Francisco office. ALX Oncology Inc. follows a hybrid work model (i.e., part-time in South San Francisco office with flexibility to work part-time remotely).
Salary: $260,000-$320,000
