Position OverviewSutro Biopharma, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated individual with exceptional proficiency in designing and executing in vivo pharmacokinetic models, skills in drug administration by multiple routes, and plasma and tissue sample collection. The Scientist conceives experimental strategies and leads the design and conduct of experiments in biological systems to characterize the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of potential therapeutics to prioritize them for further development. This individual possesses knowledge of relevant experimental biology techniques, including pharmacokinetic and metabolism methodologies; participates in technology development in the area of in vitro assays, cell biology, or in vivo testing; interprets, and communicates experimental findings and documents according to approved policy; maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and develops and analyzes new product concepts by reviewing preclinical and clinical literature; mentors and guides junior scientists and may manage research associates.  This position contributes to and supports the company’s research and development efforts to create high-value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs. Responsibilities
  • Conduct in vivo pilot toxicology and pharmacokinetic studies of small molecules and biologics in rodent models.  
  • Grow tumor cells, implant cells into animals and perform PK-PD studies. 
  • Performs necropsy and tissue harvesting.  
  • Comply with IACUC and AAALAC regulations by renewing, amending, and developing protocols. 
  • Understand and implement study protocols according to IACUC guidelines. 
  • Expertise in handling and dosing rodents and administering test articles via various routes. 
  • Prepares basic formulations and dosing solutions.   
  • Maintain study records/files, provide written materials and methods sections for technical reports. 
  • Manage samples (including receipt from external parties and in-house) 
  • Maintain familiarity with current relevant in vivo PK-PD models to support preclinical development and investigational new drug application filings. 
  • Able to work and solve problems independently (i.e., without direct supervision) on routine work. 
  • May supervise, mentor, and train junior personnel. 
  • Act as a principal investigator in conducting in-house and CRO studies, including but not limited to generating SOW’s, protocol generation/review, and monitoring study progression. 
  • Work collaboratively with teams across multiple functions. 
  • Plan and budget for animal procurement.  
  • Required to work occasionally on weekends and Holidays. 
Qualifications: 
  • A BA or BS in biological science is required; an MS or PhD in a scientific discipline is a plus.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of in vivo PK studies in small animals. Experience with large animals is not required but is a plus.
  • Understands rodent physiology and anatomy.
  • Former membership of IACUC is a must. 
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills. 
  • Being resourceful is a requirement.
  • Familiar with PK-PD animal models.
  • Familiarity with Health Hazard Classes is required.
  • Working experience with ADC, PEGylated molecules, and small molecules is preferred.
  • Familiar with relevant FDA and ICH guidances.

The final salary offered will be dependent on several factors that include and are not limited to relevant previous experience, job responsibilities and duration of experience, the type and length of experience within the industry and education.
