The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGAM DESCRIPTION        

The Biopharmaceutical Development Program (BDP) of Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. supports the Frederick National Laboratory Cancer Research (FNLCR) and other government agencies through the development of novel agents for first-in-man clinical studies.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Building Coordinator provides building management support services to Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing and Laboratories under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) conditions.  Coordination and support services are generally concentrated in the areas of renovations, maintenance, and safety but may include coordination with any group at NCI-Frederick or beyond.  Most work is performed independently and follows established operating procedures.  Special assignments or major program developments are reviewed periodically.

  • Coordinates the maintenance of facilities associated with cGMP manufacturing and laboratory operations. 
  • Coordinates and maintains the spare parts inventory of all critical parts for utilities and process equipment.
  • Coordinates work orders to support BDP equipment installation, facility construction/renovation and facility and equipment repairs. 
  • May serve as liaison between BDP and Facilities, Maintenance & Engineering (FME).
  • Identifies external resources to complete work orders and coordinates their services.
  • Coordinates with FME and external sources, all calibration requirements, including HVAC, other critical utility systems, process and analytical equipment. 
  • Coordinates housekeeping activities in laboratory, warehouse and critical manufacturing space to comply with cGMP guidelines.
  • Prepares Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Program of BDP’s cGMP operations.
  • Coordinates the resolution of all trouble calls related to BDP facility operations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
We will be considering candidates for Building Coordinator Specialists I, II, or III.  

  • Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. (Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree is preferred.) Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency  
    • Building Coordinator Specialist I - No work experience required with a Bachelors degree.
    • Building Coordinator Specialist II - In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of two (2) years experience working in building maintenance including one (1) year of exposure in a cGMP environment.
    • Building Coordinator Spec III - In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years experience working in building maintenance including two (2) years of exposure in a cGMP environment.
  • Ability to translate program requirements into work orders
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate renovations, activities of contractors, subcontractors, and vendor staffs
  • Ability to prepare and monitor budgets
  • Ability to perform on-site technical inspections of equipment and systems to assure that they are being maintained in good operating condition.
  • Ability to provide appropriate response in emergency situations.  Occasionally works beyond normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  
  • Ability to perform physical duties including: Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
    Walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and working in confined areas, potential exposure to particulates, vapors or noisy environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Prior experience in cGMP Facility Management environment
  • Knowledge of cGMPs related to the maintenance and operations of critical utilities, process and analytical equipment
  • Knowledge of operation of building utilities
  • Knowledge of or experience with building automation systems
  • Knowledge of basic budgeting principles
  • Experience in safety practices with regard to general industry standards

  • This position is considered a safety-sensitive position and will be subject to random drug testing per the Leidos Biomedical Research Drug Free Workplace Program.
