Lets do this. Lets change the world! The Competitive Intelligence (CI) team at Amgen serves as a key partner to Commercial leadership, providing strategic guidance and data-backed insights. This role is instrumental in driving commercial success and crafting future strategies for Amgen portfolio assets. In this vital role The Director of CI will oversee a team of 5-7 hard-working individuals (full time Amgen FTE + Contingent Worker) and is responsible for leading the competitive intelligence efforts for inline/pipeline oncology assets and diseases within the Amgens portfolio.
The successful candidate will need to influence and challenge a diverse set of stakeholders from Commercial, R&D, Medical, Regulatory, Operations, Market Access, and Business Development, while proficiently understanding the nuances of each disease area and markets they support.
They will serve as a mentor, developing talent and guiding the team while providing technical guidance in Competitive Intelligence methodologies. Additionally, the Director will articulate the interplay between Competitive Intelligence and related functions within Commercial Data & Analytics (Global Insights, Forecasting, Primary Market Research, and Analytics).
Flexible Commuter role to Thousand Oaks office. You will work on-site 2-3 days a week.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Competitive Intelligence and will be responsible for the following:
Primary point of contact for senior Therapeutic Area leaders to engage in CI deliverables for the organization, and be a trusted thought partner to cross-functional leadership
Working closely with Global and US Oncology leadership on cross-portfolio workstreams (e.g., TA Strategy, Disease Opportunity Profiles, Disease Area Governance, etc.)
Provide mentorship and guidance for the oncology CI team
Responsible for above brand budget management for CI deliverables, vendor management, and training
Planning Tier 1 and Tier 2 congress coverage for the Oncology CI team, allocating resources and providing training opportunities for junior team members
Analyze competitors and market dynamics to inform forecasting models and strategic decisions
Applying primary and secondary CI methodologies and connecting the dots with internal stakeholders to generate competitive insights and influencing internal decision making
Develop an objective point of view of brand strategy by integrating insights across multiple functions and capability areas
Leverage communication and interpersonal skills to influence leadership on recommended course of action
Build and deliver effective presentations that are transparent and articulate all key variables in the forecast, ensuring clarity and comprehensive understanding for partners involved in decision-making processes
Collaborate with the broader CD&A (Commercial Data & Analytics) organization to integrate comprehensive insights and analytics knowledge into the development and refinement of forecasts. This collaboration strives to improve the depth and accuracy of forecasts by leveraging a broad spectrum of insights across the organization
Drive productivity and efficiency, streamlining forecasting processes where possible

Basic Qualifications:Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience in competitive intelligence and/or consulting
OrMasters degree and 8 years of experience in competitive intelligence and/or consulting
OrBachelors degree and 10 years of experience in competitive intelligence and/or consulting
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.
Preferred Qualifications:Biopharma industry experience
Leadership experience in building and developing high-performing teams
Ability to quickly establish credibility with and influence SVP level staff
Alignment of teams to best practices and championing new innovative methodologies and tools
Business acumen that lends itself to understanding the context and dynamics of pharmaceutical markets for relevant disease areas
Partnership with business leaders to deliver high-quality predictions guiding strategic decision-making
Oral, written, and presentation skills to explain complex concepts and controversial findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
