The Director, Cost Accounting will lead strategic business processes and support the Global Finance organization in ensuring accurate financial records while building stakeholder relationships across various functions and operating sites. The successful incumbent leverages strong, detail-oriented analytical and problem-solving skills and has extensive experience with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Can recognize and understand the cross-functional impact of transactions.

The Director, Cost Accounting will report to the Corporate Controller and is responsible for consistently applying business processes and methodology across multiple manufacturing and development sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Corporate shared services worldwide cost and inventory group, which includes responsibility for ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closes
  • Lead strategic collaborative business process initiatives for streamlined cohesiveness cost and inventory accounting
  • Ensure consistent application of cost accounting and inventory management principles and business processes across multiple sites and automated applications
  • Review and analyze cost components and financial reporting information to ensure that the costs capitalized into inventory or impacting gross margins are aligned with GAAP
  • Provide recommendations on appropriate costing changes by reviewing and analyzing labor and overhead rates and allocations continuously
  • Partner with Finance and Operations departments (SCM, Procurement, Mfg. Quality) to drive process improvement, standardization, and gain efficiencies
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of bills of material, including routings, resources, changes in the manufacturing processes for existing products, projects, and new product introductions
  • Establish, maintain, and update effective manufacturing cost allocation and cost classification models with the Finance and Operations departments
  • Design, oversee, and ensure accurate record-keeping for physical inventory observations and cycle counts on a location-by-location basis
  • Assist with the budgeting/forecasting process for the cost of goods manufactured and gross margin
  • Review manufacturing spend and evaluate performance against standards, budgets, and forecasts
  • Develop cost estimates for potential new products and projects in conjunction with the Finance, Commercial, Program Management, Global Supply Chain, and the Operations Team
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of SOX controls related to cost and inventory
  • Support and participate in external reviews and audits per GAAP, FASB, FAR, and CAS accounting standards
  • Must excel working in a fast-paced environment in which business processes and automation are still being developed
  • Develop and rollout training materials for users of financial systems
  • Responsible for other projects and duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12 – 15 + years of working experience in finance, inventory, and cost accounting using advanced enterprise resource planning financial solutions
  • Requires a comprehensive understanding of GAAP, and other cost accounting policies and procedures across multiple financial, and operational systems
  • Demonstrates analytic aptitude for reviewing, interpreting, and analyzing costs, and an understanding of trade-offs within overhead allocations
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial activities such as procure to pay and order to cash using A/P, AR, G/L, and manufacturing. Other direct working knowledge of Supply Chain operations preferred
  • Requires proficient skills in general ledger accounting and management of costs across multiple Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools
  • Work requires advanced interpersonal skills (writing and communication) and strong analytical skills

Preferred Experience

  • Mix of private and public company experience
  • Government and CAS experience
  • Biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing industry experience
  • Experience with advanced ERP applications: Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, or Oracle

Our target annualized base pay hiring range for this position is $170,000.00 - $221,750.00. Actual base pay is dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s geographical location, relevant experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
