General Scope And Summary
SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker to lead our Medicinal Chemistry programs focused on small molecule drugs for CNS disorders. A demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, start-up matrix environment will be essential, as well as strong managerial and organization skills in an outsourced setting. A strong track record in drug discovery and chemistry team leadership is essential. The role requires an individual with a proven track record of delivering quality development candidates and an exceptional grasp of the entire interdisciplinary drug discovery process from lead generation to development candidate nomination. Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated highly tuned people management, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Roles And Responsibilities

Design, implement, and execute medicinal chemistry strategies at various CRO partners.

Establish partnering strategies and effectively plan resource allocation to achieve team goals.

Provide scientific and managerial leadership in an outsourced Medicinal Chemistry environment.

Work and influence drug discovery cross-functional teams.

Provide timely and well-organized reports to project teams and senior management team forums.

Collaborate effectively with other departmental managers and functions.
Experience, Education, and Specialized Knowledge And Skills
Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, and the ability to identify issues and raise to key stakeholders in order to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.
Basic Qualifications
-
Doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry.
-
7+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with a strong track record of scientific innovation and delivery of clinical candidates.
Preferred Qualifications
-
In-depth knowledge of the entire drug R&D processes; expertise in ADME/PK, pharmacology, CMC, formulations, and computational chemistry.

A natural leader with effective organizational, interpersonal, communication, and managerial skills who is able to motivate and inspire others.

Demonstrated technical proficiency, scientific creativity, independent thought, and ability to effectively collaborate with others.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Ability to foster positive working relationships across the organization, in particular with functional leads, program leads, and senior leadership.
